Large off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Dark amber hue that is mostly clear. Flavor is caramel and apple malt. Palate is smooth and light/med bodied. Overall a good brew and the best I’ve had from anheuser-busch. Moz (613), Gothenburg, Sweden

Aroma of caramel with some fruity hints. Malty taste, a bit alcoholic but not a bad beer. ChetLemmons (87), orlando, Florida, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 3, 2007 Yo, my buddy and I snagged a handle of this from our local brewery. I threw mine in a pint glass, from which I could clearly distinguish the faint aroma of toffee, caramel, and Land-O-Lakes butta. The taste was smooth, yet somewhat refined. My main man demonstrated this refinement by pouring his into a ceramic teacup and "raising the roof" at the same time he rose his pinky finger. There was a definite aftertaste, similar to when you get a bit o’ grass in yo Milwaukee’s Best 40-ounce. The most gnarly feature of this particular brew is the massive champagne bottle that she’s packaged in. This is definitely taking "center-stage" on my beer wall, next to the half-empty bottle of generic tequila and alcoholic energy drinks. The 8.5% is starting to kick in now, so I better finish this up before I have to drive ho......... dyetube (415), Dallas, Texas, USA

Maybe because his beer was a year old. What I bought pours a deep amber with a medium tan head leaving no lacing down the sides. It has a strong malty aroma and the flavor is exactly the same! There is no hops to balance out the maltiness, but being a malt liquor there prob. shouldn’t be. Not really a big malt fan (I am a hophead)but I gotta say this is really not all that awful of a beer. Payed 13.00 for this big thing so I consider it a decent buy. Do I like it? not really... but it is far better than what they normally brew. Cheers!

O.k. Didn’t realize that this was supposed to be a Dopplebock when I rated it. Although I now know that it doesn’t change my score, but it does change how I percieved the beer. I still think there is a little too much maltiness that has no hop balance at all. I know being a Dopplebock it is supposed to be mostly malt but there is always a good hop backbone to help out and I feel it is not in this beer. | 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Nov 24, 2007 Bottle has been sitting in my dad’s fridge for about a year now. No way in hell he was gonna drink it, so... here we go. Aroma has some mild skunky sweetness. Sweet corn. Grainy maltiness and corn syrup. Pours murky orangish gold wih a creamy head leaving so-so lacing. Flavor has lots of thick corn sweetness. Just the tinist amount of bittering hops. Medium bodied and creamy. No way I could possibly finish a 1.5L of this junk. MrRain (435), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 22, 2007 2007 version. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this beer, it changes every year. This year it’s a caramel doppelbock style. It has a definite astringent alcohol presence in the nose along with caramel and butter. It pours brownish ruby with a medium head that lasts the whole beer. The body is full and oily but a touch thin as expected from AB. The alcohol comes through very prevalent along with the caramel and butter. This beer actually smells just like it tastes. It’s an excellent AB beer but they’re just a tad off from what is typically considered micro-Heaven. All in all this is a good beer and I highly encourage everybody to support AB when they branch out with "other-than-mainstream" venues. rayg1 (442), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 18, 2007 I think this is the wrong beer becuase this is 2007’s version and it is a dopplebock, not a malt liquor. This pours out a light brown color with a fairly thin tan head. Aroma isn’t too bad a bit of caramel sweetness and toffee up in there. Taste is fairly sweet of caramel and perhaps brown sugar. I have to say, this isn’t a half bad beer and I can’t believe this came from Anheuser-Busch.
