But lost carbonation quickly and was difficult to finish after that. Left a bit of gritty film on my teeth. daniele (1734), Italy

Great to try the REAL thing; much more grainy tastey and full bodied than the AB type. krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 18, 2007 having tried to brew a plain jane back-to-basics pilsener recently, i am somewhat humbled by comparing mine to budvar, one of the benchmark "ur" brews of the style. several distinct aspects of this beer impress me-- ones that are deceptively simple, yet as evasive as wildlife to those that try to approach clumsily: they are the perfect diamond-clarity of the pour, and the fragile aroma of hops. these qualities i’ve learned are easy to drown out and besmudge in the crowded porridge of extract wort and the bumbling of novice brewing. budvar’s color is as arresting as the iridescent banana yellow of a traffic light, and the head is as purely white as aphrodite’s underwear--tho all but a doily of foam implodes and disappears within seconds. the hops, however lush, are not exactly the citrusy or piney aroma i would have expected: rather a bit of peanut shell, a note of rubber band and freshly laundered cotton. perhaps one can evoke the smell of a number two pencil, the kind with the thick yellow paint and tooth marks on it. it remains very pleasant, and the taste is a cool washing away of even that gooey, reclusive thirst that can hide behind the back molars. lots of briskly carbonated water carries white grape vinous flavors in a chilling torrent through the mouth, while a gesture of honey animates the bread stick malts as gently as a butterfly steps on flower stamens. this sample came to me NOT on a cargo ship packed in palettes and kilo tons-- but in a suitcase carefully husbanded by my own girlfriend across the pond, so you can be sure i savored every sip. you betcha: this bud was for me. I’m sure it would have been much better on draft. Smell was a bit off, taste was just a bit musty / funky. Rich golden color, smooth & full mouthfeel, but stale taste. I’ll have to do this one again. dmac (1488), Toms River, New Jersey, USA

Pours a rather nice looking crysta clear golden orange with large sized soda bubbles carbonation with an average size slick white head. Aroma of malts, cereal grain, fruit and slight syrup. Medium palate with very lively carbonation and a quickly disipating aftertaste. Flavor is very light compared to the aroma with pilsner malt and slight fruitiness. A drinkable lager. Pretty well balanced with no after taste. Pretty enjoyable overall. We drank 2. I’d equate it to a nice Sam Adams Light
