Very nice appearance, excellent aroma of malts and grains, great fruity taste and eminently drinkable. No hints of rice or other random crap that you might find in, er, "other" beers out there. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 17, 2009 Bottle. Clear yellow body with a small white head that disappears. The first whiff is slightly sulphuric, an aroma that sticks around longer than expected. On top of that are aromas of toasted bread and herbs with a hint of dough. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter. The finish is lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. A bit of a grainy taste emerges in the finish. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. Not unpleasant yet not all that good either. angrybeerman (107), Dublin, Ireland
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 16, 2009 Bottle. Pours a nice golden colour with a good white head. I was soon put off however by its skunky aroma. So soon after being excited I was put off by this and was hoping it bore no resemblance to its American successor beer. However my fears were gone as soon as I took my first sip. I was met by a well balanced taste of sweet and bitter. The bitter hops are more noticeable in the finish. Goes down well. A good beer. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 14, 2009 This beer has that classic pils flavor that I so love. Although it is certainly light in body and flavor, Czechvar is clean, crisp and refreshing with a grassy, yeasty flavor and a small hop finish. A very tasty and enjoyable beer. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 10, 2009 Bottle from Tylers. Smells on point--spritzy, grassy, slightly skunky in a good way. Flavor is crisp and clean, with some light hop flavor. Easy drinking, and much better than the Budweiser I have been consuming as of late. foxmania23 (7), Czech Republic does not count | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 9, 2009 Clean bitter taste leaving nice full malty flavours. Lucky to have sampled at source in the brewery in Ceske Budejovice- Velvety smooth creaminess on top of delicious fresh yeastiness. A simply delicious more-ish drink. More carbonated than some Czech lagers, but with a light head. The original and only Budvar, the best. rustychiles (1058), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 5, 2009 Pours a golden color with a small white head. Aroma is hops malt and a light skunkiness. Flavor is malt bitter hops and a touch of metal. Crisp and decent but the metal is a bit disconcerting.
