Pours a deep dark brown. Aromas of roasted malts, smoke, and hints of fruit. Flavors of the roasted malts, some fruit, with a coffee aftertaste.

Toasted brown with a loose tan fluff. Semi-sharp chocolate and coffee melds with a distinct nuttiness, toasted bread and light smokiness. Roasted and nutty from the start; mild caramel sweetness before a dry espresso finish. Stealthy, light; velvety with crisp carbonation.

Pleasantly dry, roasty and sessionable.

50 cl bottle, best before 5.2.2009.

Nice foamy top. Almost completely black. The aroma is not as strong as the color suggest and neither is the flavor. A bit sweet and malty. Much like dark Kozel.

500 ml bottle. Medium head is light brown, fine textured and qite creamy. Dark brown liquid has shade of amber against the light. Light to medium sweet flavor with lightly roasted and sweet caramel malts. Also some coffee aromas. Very light bitterness in the finish. Mouthfeel is smooth but a bit watery and boring.

Bottle 0.5 l. Bought Superbrugsen Hilleroed. Dark brown with beige head. Rich carbonation. Weak malty aroma. Quite malty although I cannot determine the type of malt. Hobs almost absent. Medium bitter. Not much mouthfeel.

Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings.
-------- /> How: Tap late-night (when all the good beer bars are closed) at some very cool pub in Prague but with a sucky beer selection
The look: Dark brown body with medium beige head
To me a typical Czech Tmavé (Czech Black Lager) is: Dark malts and barely any roastiness sensation. Some dark fruits flavours (raisins with a little figs, dates and prunes) wrapped in smooth dark caramel (borderline toffee) and a subtle chocolate note. A bit bready. Moderately sweet without much hops presence and only a mild bitterness (voluntary unbalanced it seems). Very smooth body, like a watery cream.
This one: As above but less of everything and a bit more toffee flavour. Hints of black liquorice. Body felt a bit empty. Too clean.
