Probably the best dark Czech beer widely available. A dry and remarkably smooth beer that is well worth seeking out on draught when in the Czech Republic

Bottle from Oddbins. Pours dark brown with beige head that quickly dissipates. Roasted malt predominates in the nose but reveals nice hop characteristics (Saaz) on closer inspection. The initial hit is of roast malts eventually being balanced by a hint of sweetness. Long hoppy finish. Despite its appearance and the use of stout-type malts the end result is surprisingly light. Fantastic stuff and, if you can find it, the cask version is even better.

: Good shit. Aint got nothing witty or too reflective to say.Very swillable ,roasted malty & this more obscure Budvar is cooler than the very decent Pils . .

Just called Budvar Dark in the bar I sampled this one in. Based on taste, I’m assuming this is the same beer. Poured out black with a big white creamy head. Smelled of pepper, nuts and has some floral notes. Tasted of caramel and chocolate with some bitter citrussy notes. Peppery finish.

Deep Brown, Nice and balanced malty and fruity. With a heavy fruit front and a long finnish thats a little bitter (better in cask ,scored cask) gbbf bottle tasting session... deeep ruby red ... rich smokey fruity lager ... rich flavour ... lager tones but some caramel and roast malts . 3.8

Quite a surprise. Never heard of it until I tasted it in Prague last week. I hope somebody starts importing it to Denmark, it’s one of the best dark Czech beers I have tasted, a lot better than Kozel!

Deep garnet in color; Fluffy lasting head. Mild roasted flavors. Not assertive, but very pleasing. Drank at the brewery!

had a few of these on tap in český krumlov yesterday, before that i never knew it existed. pretty black with a pikelet mix head. prunes and saaz in the aroma. quite a sweet mix of stewed apple and brown sugar but with a very pleasant lightly sweet and dry finish. very drinkable
