A "red eye" has been around for decades, and I don’t believe its origins come from south of the border. I think AB went the "chelada" route because of recent trends, and the fact Clamato juice has really taken off in Mexico and Central America, and has become a huge market for Clamato. I’m a big fan of Clamato juice, I enjoy a red eye, so how bad could it be? This beer pours to a opaque pink color, with a pink head that quickly fades, and a vibrant carbonation. The nose on this beer is a mix of lime/Clamato which is nice if you like that, trouble is, most don’t. The palate is salty, with Clamato flavor, which pretty masks any beer flavor. This beer ends with more Clamato/salty flavors, then ends with a hint of lime flavor and salt that lingers. Not a very good example of red eye. If you like Clamato (I love it) it is palatable for that reason alone. That being said, you would do far better making your own red eye with a better tasting beer, Clamato, or what ever tomato based juice you fancy. Worth a try for the curious, but not a beer I would ever purchase again. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA

Not a whole lot to say on this one... snail shell dunked in tomato juice aroma... with a flavor to match... (a wee bit better than the Bud Light version) the salt and lime do shine through on the finish... thankfully removing most of the horrible flavor. GG (1640), NorCal, California, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 26, 2008 I’m going to go against the grain on this and say that the addition of Clamato (a fine juice on it’s own) actually makes Bud more palatable. The "bloody beer" has been something I’ve enjoyed since my first legal beer drinking days, so this was nothing new. And it’s really not much of a beer, more akin to a cocktail if anything. The aroma is decidedly Clamato, with a tomatoesque, black pepper nose. It looks awfully strange in my glass, pinkish color with a really foamy pink cap with large bubbles. Flavor is mostly Clamato with the carbonation coming from the Budweiser. The tug-of-war of flavor is won by Clamato and it’s clearly better because of that. If you don’t like "bloody beers", you’ll no doubt really dislike this. blutt59 (2145), Dallas, Texas, USA

Why would anyone want to put crap like clamato and lemon in one of the greatest beers to grace the face of the earth? Tastes like campbell’s tomato soup. The only positive with this is that it is better than Bud Light Chelada. Rciesla (3719), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

My throat was dry for hours after a few sips, i had a few other people try it and 3/3 said WORST BEER EVER. So don’t buy this AT ALL there is absolutely NO reason to buy this crap.
Also this is the ONLY beer i Have ever drank that i could not finish, 24oz can. I made it through maybe 4 oz’s.....SHIT IS NASTY rednef3 (1), Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 12/20 | Jun 2, 2008 I don’t think this really qualifies as beer. It’s more of an alcoholic vegetable juice cocktail. I put Chelada in a phylum all its’ own and I think it is fairly tasty. But timing is everything to this drink. The weather has to be hot..really hot. And you must be thirsty...like eighty mile bike ride thirsty or too much time in the sun at the beach thirsty. That’s when the salt content really pays off.
