BuckNaked (1195), Tempe, Arizona, USA Aug 15, 2007 24oz can: Pours to a deep pinkish red colored body with bits of clamato clearly visable floating around. It has a small, quickly fading pinkish head. The aroma gives off tomato, salty clam, and some hints of hot sauce and maybe celery puree. Taste is mostly a salty clam & tomato juice, though the budweiser surprisingly comes through giving just a bit of sweet light malt flavor. The barest hint of alcohol comes through in the carbonation, which actually serves as a bit of a counterbalance against the clamato. Medium, forced carbonation, finishes with a bit of spicy tomato in the mouth, and a drying saltyness towards the back of the throat. So how do I rate this one? It would be easy, and almost tempting, to toss out a "this isn’t beer" and assign a 0.5. However that doesn’t make any sense - this beer isn’t trying to be a traditional German hefe or some new-fad American strong ale. So what I’m left with is a beer that really needs to be judged according to the basics of ratebeer, attempting to free myself of any preconceived notions about AB or the shock of my pasty white palate to tomato juice & beer. It’s drinkable and actually not that bad - this would make a great alternative to the bloody marry. It’s very strange to my palate, never having tried a red beer before but I do like the strange interplay of flavors at work here. Ultimately I think that due to the odd combination of clamato juice (already not liked by everyone) and beer, this is going to be liked by some and hated by others.
RSJX (1), Waco, Texas, USA does not count Sep 27, 2008 Budweiser w/ Clamato so delicious! It makes me tempting to drink Cheleda more! I loves it! beerbill (1322), Laurel, New York, USA Sep 21, 2008 24 oz. can. I saw this in the store a couple of weeks ago and picked one up to enjoy during a football game. So, today is the day and out it came. Pours a cloudy watermelon pink with a fizzy, large-bubbled pink head that disappeared before the first sip. The aroma is very mild clamato juice (tomato, clams and some black pepper) and not much else. The flavor is again mostly clamato, although it is a bit stronger than in the aroma. I like clamato juice, so this is not an unpleasant beer for me. This is not something I would drink every day, and I probably won’t be buying another can anytime soon, but it is not foul or horrid either. Slipstream (400), USA Sep 15, 2008 I can see this is getting pretty lousy ratings - so don’t throw things at me, please, but I liked it, and consider it to be one of Anheuser Busch’s best products. It is based on a Mexican way of enjoying beer. I have tried lagers before with hot sauce and lime and salt, without enjoying them very much, but the addition of clam juice and tomato makes it a lot better. The salmon-coral color gives it a look like soda pop or guava juice, and the head disappers immediately. There is a hint of tomato in the mainstream lager aroma. This is a salty, tomato dominated beverage that seems more like a Bloody Mary than a beer, but the flavor is surprisingly good - tomato sweetness and citrus plus a little hot sauce mixed with mild lager. The aftertaste is spicy with a touch of fish. This makes a nice change of pace brew. bearlybrewed (14), Colorado, USA Sep 11, 2008 Actually I do not drink A-B products, however I found this rather tastey one hot day when I had nothing else in my beer fridge (my neighbor’s cleaned me out). I love the taste of tomato, lime, and clam juice so this beer is not too bad although light. rkuhnel (1146), Eureka, California, USA Sep 8, 2008 When I was young I used to mix bad beer with tomato juice, and it seemed OK. But this seems like something different. Is it the lime? Really vile tasting stuff, this is, and poured a yucky pink with no head. Mouthfeel is medium, and the flavor is of tomato and lime, with no sense of being beer. Very salty and kind of makes you sick to your stomach.
