Commercial Description:
The first of this style brewed in North America. A rich, black brew with a mild roasted malt taste and a smooth oatmeal finish. Roasted barley and flaked oatmeal are actually used in the brewing process.

On tap at the brewpub. Weak for the style, but the best beer they brew. Dark brown, somewhat lacey and a bit of off-brown head. Chocolate and a little roast aroma, above average carbonation compensating for below average mouthfeel. A light stout, really.

On tap at Brewpub.
Appearance: Dark brown with creamy top 3+.
Aroma: Dry roasty feel, good solid dry stout aroma. Charcoal , ash and licorice.
Flavour/Palate: Medium full bodied , mild roasty charcter with soft bitterness with good warmth. Smooth, clean approachable brew.

dark amber. With dark tan head. No real aroma to speak of. however the flavour is malty and has a slight bitter smoky nose to it. Body is medium and slightly oily.

Pours more of a clear dark brown with amber highlights and a thin head. Aroma was initially a lot of diacetyl, but then I guess I got used to it, although there was also a lot of wierd cotton candy-like sweetness in the aroma as well. Flavor had some hints of nuts, light roasted malts and some chocolate. Moderately bitter finish with a slick mouthfeel.

Tap. I was oh so excited to try this beer, having never tried an american-madse oatmeal stout before. I was very dissapointed - despite a beautiful smell and color, the beer was bitter, ultra-thick, and not worth drinking at all. Certainly the worst beer in their sampler.

Deep ruby - not the black I was expecting. Sweet but light chocolate/caramel nose. Flavor is chocolate, very dark malt, sweet milk, light hops (northern brewer?) in the finish. Certainly the best beer I’ve had from The Buffalo Brewpub

Looks and smells like an oatmeal stout. However, like many of this brewer's offerings, it is subpar for the style, with a syrupy and flat mouthfeel and weak flavors. Flying Bison makes a better example here in Buffalo.
