Sampler at the Bull & Bush Pub & Brewery, Denver 11/10/2007 Strong fruit and caramel aromas. Small tan head. Dark red coloured smooth on the palate and strong in alcohol with a slightly bitter coffee roast finish.

This was a 2005 vintage on tap at the Bull and Bush. It was black as night and had a serious whiskey/bourbon smell going on. The taste had more bourbon, thick, coats your mouth. This is pretty darn good and it must certainly be barrel-aged. It kinda reminds me of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout which is a good thing. If you like RIS or barrel-aged brews, try this one. Oh, and the bartender told me it was 12% ABV. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 04-02-2008 04:00:17

Crushed with Jakebra at BSAF. Cool name. Some bourbon notes, vanilla, and sharpie marker on the nose. Flavor is the same, with more bourbon, but not too much, which is pleasing. Solid brew.

On tap at BSAF. Poured a deep brown/black color with a quarter-inch beige head that faded to a thin layer. Aroma of chocolate, faint roasted malts, spicy bourbon, vanilla, and nuts. Smooth, sweet entry with some milk chocolate overtaken by a strong, spicy bourbon flavor with undertones of vanilla and a soft fruitiness (plum and prune) that finishes lightly dry with some oak. Low carbonation and moderate mouthfeel. A solid beer, but it seemed a bit bourbon-heavy which tends to mask the subtle flavors in the beer.

Draught at the 6th Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours opaque with an average, frothy, dark brown head, lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, caramel, chocolate), light hops (grass), average yeast (leather) with notes of heavy alcohol and prunes. Full bodied, creamy and alcoholic texture, average carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, moderate acidity, sweetness, and bitterness.

2005 vintage on tap at the brewpub on 10/12/07: Pours an oily nearly opaque with dark brown edges and a thin, wispy-lacing dark tan head. Aroma of sweet molten dark chocolate and molasses with some roasty coffee and mild bourbon oak. Body starts with a dense malty viscosity and earthy caramel and bittering hoppy presence toward a bitter molten dark chocolate and oaky bourbon finish. A nice barrel-aged imperial stout.
