| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 16, 2007 Draft @ the BP. Smooth, not overpowering as the 11.5% would lead you to believe. Hints of pineapple, vanilla and coconut. Nice. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 16, 2007 Draft: Molasses brown. Dense ring of dirty-white bubbles quickly diminishes. Predictable nose of vanilla beans, caramelized maple sugar, and oaky tannins. Soft prickles of carbonation. Slick body. Early rounded acidity gives way to zingy tannins, caramelized wood, and warming alcohol. Deep-rooted charred malt mirrors that of the charred wood. Borderline cloying at times, and notes of chocolate fudge and vanilla beans contribute more redundant sweetness. Overabundant bourbon squelches the subtleties which are never allowed to develop. Slick, molasses-like finish is accompanied by tannins and a gentle brush of oak. Flabby yeast and a plummy fruitiness linger. Fairly dirty example, and disappointingly soggy and yeasty. Okay, so it has a powerful nose. But where’s the complexity? Way too one-dimensional for me. Crosling (1855), Loveland, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2007 Draught @ the Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Lovely aroma of bourbon, oak, chocolate, coffee and roast. Unfortunately, the flavor was a bit of a let down. The barrel seemed to only contribute whiskey flavors, not vanilla or coconut or other nuances. The body was also disappointing. drewbeerme (2305), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Black with a brown edge and brown head. One of the best balanced aromas of bourbon and roasted malt. Nice chocolate and coffee undertones. Flavor of bourbon, roasted malt, vanilla and chocolate. Every thing was blended and balanced so well. Very smooth mouthfeel. Great stuff. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Black ale with a small, creamy, light brown head with an orange tint. Bourbon, rich chocolate, vanilla and light coffee in both the flavor and nose. Sweet, but not overly so. Lightly burnt and bitter. Full-bodied with a silky, motor oil mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Finishes chocolatey, lightly sweet, mildly alcoholic and finally dry. World class beer!
