Some green apple and some light sulfuric eggyness, which suggests it wasn’t quite as fresh/ready as it could have been. Some cereally and nutty malt notes also noticed. Tasted quite OK in the end though. chriso (4852), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2006 Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival, September 2006. A very dark bitter - deep chestnut colour. Slightly bready malt aroma. Quite bitter on the palate with cooking chocolate and some sharp berry fruit. There’s a distinctly sour pickup on the finish. Treads the line between a bitter and an old ale, almost straying into traditional porter territory too. Whatever category it belongs in, I thought this was a very interesting beer and a promising early offering form a fairly new brewery.
