CapnJazz (35), Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2009 Bottle, pulled deep out of the cellar, bought at the Brewery last summer. Really hazy red brownish pour, nice light head. Strange, bretty aroma with a lot of field berries. A nice dance between sweet and sour, very fruity but not overbearing. Very nice, but just didn’t wow me like some of the brewery’s other stuff. Good. CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 18, 2009 Bottle sampled on 1/10/09: Pours a hazy ruby red with a fizzy, light pink head. Aroma of fresh tart blackberries and some leathery funk with a touch of malty sweetness. Starts with good light sweetness and fruity notes with lots of tart balance and some bretty complexity before a drier crisp finish with lingering berry flavor. A nicely styled and well-made brew. yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Jun 18, 2009 Finally drank my bottle shared at a sour tasting this weekend. This one totally lives up to the hype. Freaking awesome! Dark amber red, nice and bright and rich. So incredibly smooth and drinkable that I just want more. Great level of sourness from the fruit. Lots of berry flavor. Not overedone at all and the little age I bet has done this some good. The right amount of wood, the right amount of bourbon and the right amount of tartness. This just has everything I want. Smooth sweet bourbon, blueberry, blackberry, raspberry, vanilla and wonderful finish. Just delicious. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 3, 2009 Nice pinkish-red body with an off-white/pink head. Head is small and falls leaving behind more than a halo. The head’s reamains stay flat on the top capping it off, reminiscent of a west-nile infected stagnant pond. but in a good way
Nose is very tart, cant smell that wild yeast too much, the sour berries are very bright and almost astringent to the nose.
It’s really a nice dance between a very funky yeast playing off of extremely tart berries. Every sip you get funk, washing into some juicy berry notes, washing to a little funk again, and then some dry sourness that leaves your pallet slightly salivating.
About as drinkable as it can be, I would probably throw up an entire fruit basket if i drank this by myself, rather acidic, but in small amounts it’s a fantastic sour. Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Apr 20, 2009 Bottle generously shared by hophead84. Pours a reddish burgundy color with a fizzy purple pink head. Medium sourness dominated by blue and black berries with some vinegar and notes of oak. Flavor was tart berry fruits with again medium sourness, very enjoyable. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia Mar 8, 2009 [Bottle, thanks CaptainCougar!] Pours hazy red with a small pinkish-purple head. Really nice aroma that is a little funky and fruity (with this obviously being blueberry). The taste is much the same with the funkiness starting and then transitioning to the blueberry. Decent mouthfeel with a long, fruity finish that is quite dry. A very enjoyable beer that I would like to try again. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 7, 2009 Bottle shared by BrianK. Pours a deep violet pinkish with a nice fluffy lively head. Aroma is very powerful- intense berry, bourbon, vanilla, cream, funk, and vinous all at once. Funk is almost all out- tons of brett and lacto, with some dark cherry skin -pedio, blueberry, red wine grapes, slightly astrienget woodines, tannic, slight bourbon with vanilla and a sour almsot sharp acidic finish- awesome! JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jan 31, 2009 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Deep purple/pink color, big-bubbled light pink head. Nice sharp sweet-tart aroma with some mild fruit character. Carbonation plays well tartness on the tongue, the berry character comes out more towards the finish, some oak way int he back. Nice.
