| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 5, 2008 750ml bottle from the brewery. With a loud pop of the cork (leaving a dent in my ceiling), it scared me for a second but it didn’t gush at all... from the bottle it pours a cloudy, soft golden orange with a firm, thick and foamy off-white head, standing tall and morphing into sea foam much like a true abbey beer would. Abundant yeast phenols in the nose, dusty, minerally, earthy, delicate and inviting. Note of dry peach and orange peel and nutty crackers come together well. Smells downright amazing. Full, thick and rich body. Up front it’s sweet fruit (cantaloupe, under-ripe orange, kiwi), with some candy sugar noted over the middle. The back is more of a creamed orange and honey-flavored candy sugar... delicate but bright. Fantastic and satisfying. mar (1972), Dallas, Texas, USA

Nice! Pours turbid deep golden toward orange with a huge, fluffy 4-finger, vert loud, boisterous head that seems to say, "You can;t handle the Diabolique, punk!" Nose is bready rock sugary malt, spicy yeast, florals, apricotty fruit, and hopcit. Tastes rock malty, fruity, spicy yeasty, with backup floral and peppery notes. Palate is very lively, on the dry side, with spucy peppery, yeasty, and fruit throughout. The head stays through the repour, and forms marvelous shapes reminiscent of La Chouffe Houbbelein. This one, as with all the BF 750s I’ve had, is very good. hopdog (5627), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma of sweet biscuity malts and Belgian yeast with some floral noble hops and light fruity esters. Starts with a nice malty sweetness and good balance of earthy bittering hops before a drier, fairly full semi-dry finish. A good Belgian ale. Nate (2569), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA

Orange peel and dry hay, candi sugar and molasses. Fruit skins and an herbal tang. Golden dark amber clear with thin lacing head. Medium bodied with high carbonation. Great taste. Smooth caramel and brown sugar sweetness. Fruity funky notes with Belgian ale character like orange peel esters and yeasties. Bit of funky fruitness to it and some nice alcohol warming. Dry bitter after and fruity tangy finish. This is a nice ale with a good balance of sweet and bitter.
