Draft pint & growler from brewery. Black pour with a nice one finger beige head that left tons of lacing. Very roasty and fruity nose, quite sweet smelling with burnt caramel, molasses, and a minimal hop note. The flavor is thick and heavy, certainly on the sweeter side, with caramel and residual sugars on the finish. Very deeply roasty, nice balance between the malt bitterness and the sweetness from the molasses. Thick and chewy body with pinpoint carbonation that cut the heaviness really well. Another pretty awesome beer from the folks at Bullfrog.

On tap @ Bullfrog. Dark brown with mahogany edges and a tan head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, coffee and caramel. Sweet and malty with a roasty bittersweet chocolate flavor. Full body with mild carbonation and a thick mouth feel. Really nice, lots of body and flavor for the 5.8% abv.

Draft at Bullfrog. Holycow is this one underrated. Onyx pour with off-brown head. Nose and flavor were rich, with roasty dark malt, cacao, molasses, and backup hops. The palate was on the dense side, creamy, extremely well balanced, and very smooth. I had a pint after my sample, and walked out of there glad I got the chance to try this one, one of the better brewpub stouts I have ever quaffed.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark black-brown, with a cocoa head. Aroma is a snappy, dry, near-spiced dark roast and chocolate. Nice, subtle. Flavor boldens, with a rigorous bitter snap from the dark malts. Then, a very immediate ashy or tarry presence, I’m guessing from molasses. It’s a little tough, but quickly works into spiced dark malt land. Some alcohol and terse hops play off. Complex, but a little rough. With a touch more body and some smoothing, this could be excellent.

BCTC. Many thanks to the incredible generosity of the RB crowd. Part of Kramer’s incredible Bullfrog throwdown. Black with nice head and lace. Coffee chocolate yeasty cookie dough aroma. Earthy sweet chocolate yeasty with nice soft creamy palate and mild bitter finish. Very good.

[2413-20090801] Bottle. Cardboard frog aroma also has an odd roasty milk characteristic. Murky, dark brown body with a quick foamy light tan head. Odd cardboard roast malt flavour. Full body is quite bitter. Not of big fan of these bitter hops.

Brewed in the USA.... On tap at the brewery !! Pours black in color with a thin beige head that dissipates in time. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee and molasses. Taste is much of the same with some hop bite at the finish. Mouthfeel is chalky, well balanced and very drinkable.

Draft at Bullfrog. Sepia with moderate tan head. Roasted malt and rich coffee dominate the nose, also some minor hop, chocolate, and an off note, kind of stinky. More coffee and roasted malt in the flavor, but strong hop presence to balance it out and keep it more bitter than sweet. Creamy body with a bitter roasty finish. Excellent balance and nice character.
