Commercial Description:
Barrel aged raspberry sour ale. A combination of Oregon grown and local berries, handpicked by longtime friend Doug McMinn, bound together in perfect harmony. The palette opens big and bright, full of sweet raspberry, oaky vanilla, funky wild yeast and a refreshing snap of acidity.

Bottle provided by egajdzis, via Capone’s. Hazy orange-ruby color with a smallish head. Aroma of raspberries, brett, oak, hard candy and yeast. Not as sour as I’d hoped, certainly not in comparison to the Iron Hill raspberry lambic we’d tried earlier. In fact it was a bit sweet and much preferred by the non-sourhead attendees at the tasting.

Thanks to Mike for sharing this on a quiet Friday evening. It is a solid well crafted sour beer. There are some better ones out there and a few are more accessible but on the whole this may be worth sampling if you are a sourhead. Probably one of the better beers opened during the night it was a great way to kickstart a tasting.

Aroma / Appearance - The foamy head was the only distraction. Otherwise the cherry red body glowed under the lights as it moved gracefully around the glass. The nose was pure tart raspberry sourness with less vanilla than one would expect. This one has definitely hit an intensity that makes it perfect.

Flavor / Palate - The taste of sour raspberries filled the mouth with a slightly dry mouthfeel that comes from the acidity. Not very complicated it gets right to the point and then stays there as it drifts down the throat. Well rounded and balanced nonetheless, this was a fantastic sour that I wish was more accessible without driving several hours to the middle of Pennsylvania.

Bottle pours reddish color with white head. Aroma is fruit, funk, acid, barnyard, leather, and more fruit. This smells really good. And really fruity. Mouthfeel is moldy. Flavor is upfront tart raspberry, woody, tart, funky, tasty. This is a well balanced beer. All the flavors play off each other like a harmony of beauty. Its not over the top tart. Its just right. This is easily the best beer I’ve tried from this brewery. Nicely done.

25 oz bottle, shared at BCTC. Pours a pinkish red body with a short lived small fizzy head. Tart and sour raspberry nose with some brett and lighter balsamic vinegar. Some light lambic-like funky cheesy quality. The flavor was much the same, tart, vinegary, and sour with a nice dry seedy raspberry fruitiness. Very dry crisp finish with a bit more oak than some of their other sours. Nice fizzy effervescent carbonation that cut thru the acidity pretty well. One of the better Bullfrog Sours.

750 ml bottle at WTF OMG! tasting courtesy tpd975. Pours a hazy amber color with a pinkish hue topped by a small, foamy white head that settles quickly to a thin film. The aroma shows sweet and tart raspberries, oak. soured dark fruit, and some funky yeast. The flavor follows with sweet raspberries up front and then some tart berries and oak tannins. The oak imparts some signature vanilla that sweetens things up followed by some bretty funk and earthy characters. Not as tart from the raspberries as I would have thought, but still a nice enough flavor. Medium bodied with ample carbonation and a dry, tart fruity finish. Not bad, but not as sour as I was expecting.

This super-rare bottle was shared by bring on BA - thanks, Barry! The Bullfrog mafia hyped this beer up like crazy, and it was in fact pretty solid. Deep slightly hazy red color with a small white head. Aroma is tart with fresh raspberry and oak. Flavor is fresh sour raspberries, oak, vanilla, and some funk. Body is medium with a sharp acidic bite and fairly high carbonation. A good sour but not a game-changer.

750ml bottle. big thanks to pantanap for sharing another bullfrog brew. this poured murky peachy-red with an off white head. the aroma was mostly tons of acidic raspberries. although it tasted only mildly acidic and tart. a fun raspberry flavor makes this enjoyable and a nice easy drinking fruit sour.

Got to sample a bottle of this last night. Colour... cloudy strawberry red with a thick head! Nose... yeasty, funky, foxy and tart. Palate... quick flash of raspberry, tartness, somewhat phenolic/band-aid like and a long tart finish!

(Bottle thanks coyotehunter!) Pours deep red with brown hints. Off-white head with red notes. The aroma holds boatloads of fresh raspberries up front. Undertones of funky horse blanket brett, light lacto acid and mild vanilla-ish oak. Bit cheesy as well. Fresh, light sour and well balanced. The flavour is light sweet, light to medium acidic and tiny bitter. The low level of brett and lacto makes more room for the raspberries. Subtle, almost a bit empty but still super tasty. Light notes of vanilla from the oak plays well with raspberries. The mouthfeel is fresh, tart and near medium carbonated. Some citrus, tart raspberries and wooden tannins in the finish. Medium bodied. I love!
