Has several flavors, including yeast, malt, and hops. Bread. I didn’t think a helles could be so good. jeffc666 (1895), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

My love of a great lager has been pushed to the back as I have made my mad pursuits for all of the mighty ales that rule this site. But here I sit ona cloudy early March Saturday afternoon with a freshly poured glass. It looks very lovely so things are starting out well. Hazy golden with a beautiful creamy white head that leaves wonderful sheets of lace behind. The aroma is a heady concotion of grassy hops, bready malts, some herbaliness and even some light dustiness. Divine. The flavor does not let down in any way. Perfectly assembled and balanced malt profile. The hops slide right along and are also very well-balanced. Some sweetness develops as it swirls about my mouth, then I swallow and little bite of assertive carbonation. As it washes down my throat a final little burst of grassy-bread bursts forth making me thirst for more. More people need to come to this beer with an open mind. Truly a world-class beer. A dark orange color and nice, fluffy off white head make this a really nice looking beer. Nose is clean, crisp with nice malt accents. Flavor is mostly malty with some pepperiness and spice...and a nice little hoppy aftertaste. Really a very good beer. Probiere (992), Iowa, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2005 Helles? Hell yes! I would wax poetic over this, but what’s the need? An unfiltered helles with an abundance of malt, touches of vanilla, doughy, yeasty finish, nice lasting head, spritzy yet heavy body, darker than normal and hazy to view. Ends perfectly with subtle hops, no overpowering bitterness and balanced ever so slightly towards malt. A joy to drink. A pleasure to experience! come close
and hold me tight
you feel
the heart that beats
for you
and if
you dear
could read my mind
oh you
would know my love
is true !
In my glass dark gold matter with sunny white cloud above. Small bubbles dance in you with pure pleasure. Your smell is so soft, wind of Swarzwald, meadows of Alpen hills, silkiest hop touch. O hell, what you become? Soft top class malt, chewy, its pleasure to me. Hops are always present, shy creatures. If they only knew its power? Post Scriptum: All seems dark near you dear Hell.

Aroma is flowery with sweet grassy hops. Excellently smooth with chewy malts appearing as it warms. OH man that’s good. I wasn’t expecting this much from a Hells. Very good. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 11, 2004 Bottle. Golden color with a thin head and tons of lacing. Aroma is very fresh hay and grass. Taste is oh so smooth. Flavors of rich maltiness and light banana. Finally a German beer I really enjoy. argo0 (6974), Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 24, 2004 Hazy apple juice body with big off-white head (actually, it starts clear, but by the bottom of the bottle, it looks more like a murky apple cider). Aroma is herbal, light biscuit, honey. Taste is medium sweet, herbal bitter, honey, light lemon. Watery light-medium body that nevertheless has a decent tang. Very drinkable, good for a summery day.
