| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 4, 2004 Hazy golden orange with some suspended particles with a monster creamy and firm beige head. Spicy Hallertau hops with some bready malts. Incredibly delicate, yet very fulfilling. Light bodied, very crisp. A major statement in being understated. An awesome lager, I love this brewery. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 2, 2004 Lovely, bright golden color, with a generous helping of snowy foam.
Aroma: soft, floral, perfumey, with a tiny touch of sweetness and spice, quite nice.
And then, even sweeter and smoother on the lips. Hops have a delightful impact on the tastebuds, lemony, honeyish, and yummy!
Light-bodied, but full-flavored. Goodness, it gets better. Starts good, then never stops.
Terrifically balanced, well-rounded, a great lager.

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Sep 16, 2004 This is a beer that just walks up and says "drink me". Rather than linger over it, I just pick up the glass and have another swig. This is (to me) the highest compliment for a lager. The pour is a beautiful dark golden amber with a substantial head. Aroma is very subdued, with a little grass and ester, often associated with wheat. The flavor is malty and rich with the lingering taste of milk on the tongue. Very natural, very good. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Sep 8, 2004 Updated: Sep 16, 2004Orange-amber body with lots of suspended yeast dust. Explosively large white head that diminishes down to a thin sheet of white bubbles. The aroma has biscuit dough with a sharpness that reminds me of a touch too much baking soda, although it’s likely just some spicy saaz-like hops. I’ll quote a BMC beer ad and pronounce the flavor and mouthfeel to be "smooth and easy-drinking". The malts are very subdued, carrying gentle bread/biscuit flavors. The most prominent part of the flavor is the spicy hops, they’re of the grassy/floral variety. The dry finish leaves grassy hop notes with a light dried fig sweetness. The mouthfeel suffers a bit because of what I think is overzealous carbonation that tingles the tongue too much. Otherwise a well-made and enjoyable beer. I bet this stuff kicks ass when fresh Dickinsonbeer (3497), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 26, 2004 On first pour it is a nice clear gold yellow color with a good sized white fluffy head. COnsecutive pours from the same .5 liter bottle come out slightly cloudy with less head. Smell is of pilsner malt, and slight hoppiness with a charachteristic lager smell. Flavor is sweet yet balanced with malt and the palate is so damn smooth. I can see why this is the best rated Helles in the world. Fantastic brew. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 31, 2004 500 ml bottle. Luminous, shiny gold, with a light, fluffy, gigantic taupe head. Nose is fresh honey-oat bread, light yeast and light lemon, and is astoundingly wonderful. Extremely smooth and quaffable, the initial honey-sweet flavor is for me just a little light and boring, but this and a light fresh hoppiness get vastly more pronounced at the finish, which is extremely crisp, dry and full of invisible fresh Hallertauer that lingers and just spreads throughout your upper body. A very subtle, refined, remarkable beer, I can only echo others’ sentiments and wonder what it must be like to live in a place like Wolnzach and drink this from the tap every day?
