Commercial Description:
The guys have been playing around on the weekends again and have brewed a one-off mini batch. It doesn’t really fit into any traditional style definition – but is loosely based on an American craft ale style with maltier flavours, a deep copper colour and with beautiful aromatics. Let’s just call it ‘free style’! This Brewer’s Ale will ONLY be on tap at Grand Central Hotel’s Platform Bar during early September. It’s the only place to get it and they only have a few kegs, so get in before it runs out!

Draught at Platform Bar, Brisbane. This was brewed to no specific style, with the brewer labelling this one a ’Free Style’ ale. I’ve no problems with that, and it does make for an interesting brew. Appears ruby in the glass with a small beige head. Caramel malt and plum on the nose. Big malty flavour, probably crystal in the mix. I’m getting stewed dark fruit, and a touch of caramel too. Good bitterness and medium bodied. The malt may have parted a little too much tannin astringency though, which has let the beer down in the finish. A decent brew but I found that one glass was enough.

I had trouble defining this beer. 4.8% and only brewed for the platform bar apparently. From memory had a big malt body for the ABV and a bit one dimensional. Good for a taste, but I wouldn’t go back to it.
