Commercial Description:
Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - November 2005.
John Steinbeck, born of moderate means in California, became a writer who dealt with the social-economic problems of rural immigrant labour. In December 1937 he rose to prominence with the publication of a powerful social novel about such workers, known in slang as Bindle Stiffs. In the story George and his simple friend, Lenny, dream as drifters do of a safe secure future. However their hopes are dashed like “the best laid schemes of mice and men”.
Colour:Pale.
Hops: Galena & Hallertau.

Cask conditioned at The Royal Oak, Ockbrook, Derbyshire. Pale gold with a whisp of a head. Light but tasty Golden ale with a sharp biscuity malt background with a cereal wheat note. Dry peppery hops finish the beer rather powerfully. A decent beer if lacking subtlety.
