[Cask at GBBF 2004] A brown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet with notes of caramel, while the flavor contains notes of caramel, diacethyl, aroma hops, and flowers.

Cask, 4.2%. OK fruity aroma. Hazy copper colour. No head. Moldy flavour, some fruit. Quite boring.

Cask. Fine white 2cm cover tops the clearish amber body. A straightforward, very very mineral bitter which imparts a certain salty bitterness to balance the caramelly, yet dry soft malts. Dry all throughout, tasty and tartish bitter. Fresh tasting and pleasant, but the saltiness was too much in nose.

Cask Conditioned at Charters Bar, Peterborough. Light amber beer, red hue, with everlasting head. A truly well balanced , refreshing bitter, with a smooth malty base, lightly caramalised then a peppery dry hop that lasts forever. Top notch beer.

Cask at the Ginger Man in Norwalk. Pours gold with a creamy white head and low carbonation. Smells earthy and floral with some appley hints. Tastes tepid, low in carbonation and dry with a nice appley bite on the finish.

The flagship bitter from one of the oldest micros in the business. Pale brown in colour, clean in taste. Slight malt flavour (not as malty as the brewery's tasting notes suggest) with hops dominating. Quite bitter, with a long finish. Well made and easy drinking. An excellent bitter. Draught, Civil Service Recreation Centre, London SW1, June 2003 (but don't miss the brewery tap - the Burton Bridge Inn in Burton, which sells all the brewery's products - if you ever get the chance.
