Roasted malt in mouth with a an astringence which is unpleasant. Almost metaliic, like liking a iron fence post. Sourness seems to indicate the beer may be off, whcih has been stated many times for this beer in ON. PrimeMinister (138), Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2004 This beer has definitively got something different. It is a rather smooth porter with a subtle body. The coffee-cream-chocolate feel is subtle and does not constitute the main mouthfeel of this beer. Instead, efforvescence and a medium roast dominate the taste.
This is not your ordinary porter and yet something seems missing... DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England

Nice, almost opaque, jet-black. Coffee cream aroma, which really hit the spot. Deliciously balanced - sweet and dry blend. Very smooth with some warming qualities. Coffee and chocolate flavour tangible, but not overpowering. Delicious on the finish - a great pint in a great pub! Sanchex (223), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 6, 2004 Dark mahogany with a sumptuous tan head. Vinous nose with hints of homemade raspberry jam, ripe plums and yeast. Pleasing efforvescence with fleeting tastes of dark roast malt, fresh dulse and ripe tree fruit. Lingering aftertaste of bitter grapefruit. The finish is dry and slightly salty. fiulijn (7420), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy

Good caramel body, dry roasted malt, strong character. Strong bitterness. With some more fruitness it would be… Thanks Jens (Ungstrup). MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2004 Black grapes smothered by light charcoal flakes...Mini-berries taking it easy in a smooth, watery body...Alarming absence of chocolate and/or notes...Slight roastiness continues into the hoppy back where a metallic tinge causes faint discomfort...Cheers Kimchee!... beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 28, 2004 I had a hard time discerning the aroma - fruity and sweet with licorice perhaps. Essentially no head tops this cloudy rich brown beer. Slightly bitter finish to this fairly thin porter that kinda reminded me of a basic port in it's flavours. Decent.
