berkshirejohn (1759), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Oct 27, 2009 Cask at the Kingston Arms, Cambridge. Attractive damson red colour with a trace of white head that left elegant lacing on the glass; sweet and fruity aroma; sweet and fruity flavour - but not obviously damson - rich roasted malts give a chewy body; the finish is sweet from teh fruit and dry from the malts giving an interesting contrast. Very drinkable, but as a damson fan I expected much more. downender (2535), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Jun 23, 2009 Cask-conditioned at the Cornubia, Bristol 23/06/09. Deep brown in colour with next to no head. A bit of sweet fruit and chocolate upfront, followed by tart plum fruit. Forgettable. sm89walt (432), Norwich, Norfolk, England Jun 19, 2009 Cask - Churchill Tavern, Ramsgate. Clear, deep ruby with a fine but lasting off-white head. Floral aromas with summer fruits, toffee apple, honey and damson. Roasted bitterness with some earthiness, berry and floral flavours with a nutty aftertaste. Delicate finish and mouthfeel, soft texture with low carbonation. Light and refreshing. Something different. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Sep 20, 2008 Cask, Hinckley 08. Sticky sweet plum aroma with a back note of chocolate. Solid chewy raisin fruit with good roast to balance. Headless mahogany with ruby edges. Wood and rum richness. Pretty good. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Jun 2, 2008 Cask RA. Brown reddish color. Sweet fruit in the nose. First taste sour and waterish. Some cellar in the taste. Not in good shape. Fin (3382), Merton, Oxfordshire, England May 26, 2008 Cask, gravity Merton Winter Beer Festival, Friday February 17th 2006 restrospectively added from notes Dark brown pour little or no head. Some sour fruitiness (probably the damsons)was expecting a bit of cloying sweetness but there wasn’t much at all, a bit tangy, sourness returns again along with a bitterness at the fringes, its ok. oh6gdx (8795), Vasa, Finland Apr 16, 2008 Cask. Deep rubyish amber colour, not much head. Aroma is wood, some roasted malts and quite fruity and nectary notes. Flavour is wooden, fruity, grassy and some caramel. TBone (6675), Pori, Finland Apr 15, 2008 Cask (gravity)@HBF 2008
Dark ruby color, no head. Earthy, dark fruity nose, some woody hops. Sticky bitterish and sweetish flavor. Long dry, bitterish aftertaste then some caramel. Where is the porter? Or is this old time English porter?
