Not particularly hoppy, little bit sticky, this beer has a lot going for it but it needs the edges smoothing off. Tmoney99 (4791), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Poured dark amber color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate toasted sour citrus woody aroma. Medium body. Medium bitter flavor with a medium biiter finish of moderate duration. gnoff (3574), Göteborg, Sweden
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 15, 2006 50 cl bottle brought over from England by a friend. Label sais "Burton Empire Pale Ale". Shady orange color with a huge white to tan lasting creamy head. Fresh hoppy a bit fruity scent, very refreshing with a clear apricot touch to it, could be some Chinook hops in there. Hoppy and sweet taste with a hint of alcohol. Medium high bitterness. Normal mouthfeel. Fresh and bitter aftertaste. It’s does not have enough kick though! It needs more bitterness and more hoppy taste to make it better! TheGrandMaster (1874), Auckland, New Zealand
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 13, 2006 Poured from the bottle at GBBF, hazy amber with a good white bubbly head. Strong fruity vinous aroma (and a little malt). Strong citrus orange flavours and vinous again the mouth (which isn’t surprising at 7.5%). Probably didn’t do it justice after a good but long night at GBBF. ruggedman (626), Portland, Maine, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 11, 2006 What a gorgeous beer! Nice cloudy amber appearance with a big white fluffy foamy head. Nice retention on the sides of the glass. Aroma is dirty socks, sweet caramel, oranges, and other fruits. Pretty strong flavors, but no real indication of it’s 7.5%ABV. Interesting flavors here, earthy malt with burnt wood, and cellar’d tastes. EKG hops are pretty much plain as day here, but the description claims "heavily hopped". Those brits aren’t as hop insane as we are i guess :-P
Worth a try, it’s interesting, although i’m not sure i’d pick it up again. jerc (3954), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 30, 2006 Bottle. Hazy orange amber body with a massive fluffy white head that slowly fades. Sweet aroma of tropical fruit, mango, pineapple and hops over very light alcohol. Dry bitterness of the hops and alcohol is an incongruous contrast to the sweet pineapple and fruit that pops up in the flavour (6+). Light to moderate alcohol becomes slowly more noticable as the glass goes on. Average palate portrays more gravitas than it actually possesses. Very Dry finish. Very interesting, a little bit strange, but mostly enjoyable. Thanks GregClow. locarboy (115), USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2006 From a 500 ml bottle into an imperial pint glass. Poured light amber with large head and a lot of carbonation. Head flattened out to a thinnish film. Aroma of hop resin and nail polish remover. A bit over carbinated for the style. Harsh hop resin bitterness in the finish along with some fruitiness and solvent flavor (nail polish remover). Maybe this one was old or infected because I didn’t taste what many of the other posters did (but I wanted to). Still, once I was half way through it, it was kind of growing on me. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 5, 2006 Bottle courtesy and thanks to HogtownHarry! This one pours deep and hazy amber/orange with a generous beige froth that sits around and laces nicely. Aromas are kick ass bready malts with good UK hopping and perfume. Taste is milder than expected, though not disappointing. Lots of sweet bread and malts, with good subtle hopping ( Goldings) that lasts. Lots of fruit is here as well, and finishes with a burnt brown sugar hoppy bitterness. 7.5% is not noticable at all, Im in trouble with this one..........thanks so much Harry! I’ve actually wanted this one for a long time.
