Bitter hops dominate a sweet nutty malt flavor. Some alcohol warmth after the swallow. I noticed in the right column of this page that this ale is linked to Fuller’s Vintage Ale in style. This is a very good effort, but it’s not even close to Fuller’s. LilKem (1210), Marietta, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 19, 2005 Cloudy orange, only the faintest trace of a head. Possibly the closest thing I’ve ever experienced to a cask feel out of a bottle. Albeit, sort of an old cask. Sweet aroma of orange and oak. Reminds me a bit of maple syrup over buckwheat pancakes. Big, fruity malt flavor, touch of oak and an almost tannic quality, long bitter finish. Not bad, just missed for me. Murphy (1759), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 5, 2005 Big head but fades quickly. Cloudy orange body. Aroma is malts, hops, and mineral spiciness. Taste is very fruity, oaky, and vinous. Spicy and bitter, fizzy finish. Alcohol well hidden. Interesting beer, very different from the American style strong ales.
