DerWeg (432), Tronna, Ontario, Canada Aug 30, 2008 25cl bottle at The Only Cafe in Toronto. This occurs almost as a pale barley-wine with it’s elegantly assertive alcohol presence and yeasty, malty girth. Full pale-fruit character and some spicy notes in a warming full body of alcohol and malty depth. Good! Hints of tart strawberry, pepper, grass, even some bubble gum. The reason Belgian beer is mystical. Rynoplasty (201), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 28, 2008 Pours a hazy light brown with a smallish white head. Aroma is malty with fruity winey notes. Taste is big and malty, with a big warming finish from the alcohol. Not bad at all. dmac (848), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Aug 28, 2008 250 ml bottle purchased at Spirits Toms River. Pours a clear burnt orange with large bubbles clinging to the sides of my Brewery Ommegang flute and a large frothy white head that leaves some nice lace. Aroma is rather hot with lots of noticable alcohol and sweetness, honey, corn syrup, syrupy vanilla extract, raisin, caramel, toffee, doughy grains and yeast. The aroma is complex but not really in a good way. Flavor falls very flat with slight sweetness in the initial flavor that gives way to lots of alcohol and a dry grainy finish. The 12% alcohol is the dominant feature of this beer and not really what I was looking for, good thing it’s only 8.2 oz. Borresteijn (542), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 27, 2008 Bottle @ Café Gollem. Must say I already had a couple of beers, so my palate was a bit numb. And that comes in handy with this alcoholbomb. Very soft, sweet but not too sweet, fruity, spicy and alcoholic amber beer. Warming and slightly bitter finish. I like this stuff. TeamTrappist (153), jericho, New York, USA Aug 21, 2008 On tap at Sunswick in Queens. Poured a clear copper with a thin head. Very mild nose. This one had a creamy mouthful and was somewhat spicey and sweet. The finish was spicey too with a slight bit of alcohol bite to it.Not bad, but nowhere near the Prestige.
