Hey...who poured a shot of Woodford Reserve into my glass?! Nose was straight up bourbon and buttered wood, vanilla, and soft fruity tones. You better like the taste of bourbon too. Maybe toss in some dark fruit tones, some fuzzy fruit, hints of brown sugar, and a light hop bitterness for good measure. Did I mention bourbon? Luckily, none of the above offends me, but totally not what I expected from the high ratings here. Medium bodied, yet a tad thin, moderate carbonation, boozy finish. Thanks to the_beer_god for sharing.

Pours copper with suspended particles and a white head. Heavenly aroma of oak, dark and light fruits and an alcohol zing. Flavor has notes of cherry, oak, toffee/caramel and bourbon. Pleasantly sweet with ample bittering hops on the back end. Very warming alcohol presence which doesn’t detract. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. A great sippin’ beer. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Dec 7, 2005 250 mL brown bottle purchased from Home Service Beer Beverage Discount Center, Glenview, NY. ABV 12%. Clear golden yellow strong Belgium ale having an average white head with good lacing. Soft carbonation. Sweet fruity malt aromas. Medium bodied that starts dry with tiny sweet malt and toffee accents and finishes dry with slight lingering bitterness. Definite alcoholic warmth. Similar to Duvel but richer in flavor. This is a very good dry Belgium ale. jeffin7 (610), Silver Spring, Maryland, USA

Aroma is of whiskey, grape, wood, raisins, and plum. Flavor is of a nice mix of toasty caramely malt, dark fruit, and some alcohol. Nice fluffy palate. BuckNaked (1211), Tempe, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2005 Bottle: Thanks to the_beer_god Mike for bringing this gem. Pours to a cloudy amber with a yellow-beige head. Tiny particles are visable floating around when held to the light. Aroma is fruit, bourbon, light butter, molasses, oak barrel. Taste is heavy bourbon, grains, alcohol, grapes, and sugary sweet. Light-medium body, low carbonation, finishes sweet and alcoholic. I was really very excited to this great beer, but was completely let down by a mediocre beer with way too much alochol and bourbon notes. Definitely not the billed refined Belgian ale it’s supposed to be. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 4, 2005 Bottle. Nose-buttered popcorn, sugar, molasses. Taste-rich, spicy, toffee, alcohol, vanilla, oaky, almost a brett character to it. This tastes very similar to Cambridge Benevolence, which IMO is a fantastic beer. This was an excellent sipper. One of the best beers I have had in a long, long time. jeffc666 (1897), Fairfax, Virginia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 2, 2005 Big thanks to Jeffin7 for the bottle! Murky but still bright orange body topped by a creamy off-white head that laces like crazy. The aroma is huge vanilla, oak, alcohol, spices, and sugary sweetness. The flavor is really quite nice. Oak mixed with salt dripping with toffee and some warming alcohol. Not at all cloying ot overly syrupy. At 13% alcohol can get in the way, but here it just adds depth and pleasure. I could drink gallons of this stuff. Excellent example of a barrel-aged beer. One of the best, IMO. geno5 (21), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA
