Smell; this has a sweet caramel malty, almost nutty smell to it. There’s very little hop aroma at all, which I’m kind of suprised by since this is supposed to be an IPA. Aroma was definitely disapointing for an IPA.
Taste; I get lots of biscuity caramel malts, and not much in the way of hops, as the aroma indicated. I can’t see how this is classified as an IPA. It seems much closer to an amber ale. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth and creamy, with decent carbonation.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 23, 2005 Bottle. Slightly hazed amber body with a medium white head. Nose is earthy hops, spices, and creamy maltiness. Bit of dried fruit as well. Taste is odd. This is more akin to a hoppy Christmas ale or a hoppy pumpkin ale. Light malts, earthy hops and a moderate spice profile (cinnamon and nutmeg). Body is light-medium with a creamy carbonation feel. Finishes with more spices, light hops, sweet malts, some earthiness and flowers. More fruit coming through in spots as well (melon, tangerine splashes and unripe orange). hershiser2 (914), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 22, 2005 Bottle. Orangy amber in color with a small head. Smells of malts and hops... flavor is too malty for an IPA, in my opinion. Does have a bitter hop finish, but not balanced nicely. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 1.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Nov 2, 2005 Glowy orange color, little head. Aroma of orange and tootsie rolls. Flavor is rife with tannic huskiness, a harsh bitterness and a strong yeast presence. Syrupy mouthfeel. Just not pleasant to drink at all. Veeve (312), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA

A hoppy and flowery aroma, this one was really hopped up. A bit overly so, and I like hoppy beers. OldMrCrow (1200), Seattle, Washington, USA

Pours a light orange with an ample and long-lived head. Aroma is a straightforward grapefruit hops and a bit of spice; flavor is as much nutty and yeasty as hoppy, slightly off-tasting, with a hop finish that turns a bit sour as it extends. Upon a revisit, I got more alcohol than hops in the flavor.
Not one I’ll be in a hurry to return to. Braudog (3771), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Sep 10, 2005 Dark orange with virtually no head. Sour hop aroma. Gross dirty citrus flavor ... moldy and overly tangy, with a skanky bite.
