Solid chocolate, licorice, and cherry aromas. Tastes roasty-malty, with some chocoff hints, and indeed some cherry and hop notes at the finish. Complex, and well balanced. This reminds me of the aroma of a box of chocolate covered cherries. This has a slightly sweet malt flavor that starts full but ends a bit thin. SoLan (1426), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 17, 2005 Black, tan head. Smells of raisins, dark dried fruit. Coffee, chocolate, roasted malt beautifully balanced by hops. Full body. One of the better porters I’ve had, 3.31 average seems a bit low. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Good roast and chocolate aroma with a sweet roasty flavor.
Medium body makes for a great tasty drinking porter. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 10, 2005 Pours a dark, dark brown with an average tan head. No lacing apparent. Very malty aromas, burnt malt and lightly smoky.
Taste is really smoky and malty. Burnt malt and a smoky finiah and aftertaste. A bit thin for my tastes. Not much else to say. Certainly the best organic beer I’ve had but not very complex or satisfying overall. Very smooth and drinkable though. OK but not for me.
