it smelled almost like an IPA,
but the flavor reveals a good
roastiness characteristic of
the style. The malt became
more obvious as the beer
warmed in the glass, and
revealed a reasonable complexity.
An excellent example of the style
despite the more IPA-like hopiness,
(which is probably how porters were
brewed originally,) and it alone
has made me a regular at the
local natural-food store, which
is the only place I’ve ever found it. Cybercat (810), Georgia, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 12, 2009 Aroma is strong and smoky with a firm undertone of molasses, more than a touch of sweetness, and a strong hint of fine coffee - very tempting to a stoutie like me. It pours a dark transparent cola brown with a fairly thick pale tan head. Flavor is not quite as good as the aroma, but it is still pleasing - smoky and oily with tones of coffee and molasses. Only problem is there is a soapy or chalky hint - maybe this was not one of their better batches. Texture is smooth and a little edgy with a fair amount of fizz. VENOM (941), Connecticut, USA

Has some oaty sweet traits which adds to its drinkability. Becomes more roasted when warmer which rounds out this fantastic porter. Thanks AZ. VA Homebrewer (525), Portsmouth, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 12, 2002 This is a nice, full-bodied porter. Roasted malt and hops on the nose. Roasted malt, a tad too much sweetness (oats?), astringent hops and a bitter finish make this well rounded from start to finish. Deep brown color with a pillowy head that stuck around awhile. A very enjoyable brew. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA

Flavor dryer than the aroma preedicts, featuring dry cocoa and a touch of molasses. Soft mouthfeel, and light to medium weight. Purplish brown color. Zach Diesel (907), Portland, Oregon, USA
