| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 10, 2006 Bottle. Reddish amber color with a nice off white head, good lacing. Aroma falls a bit flat, hoppy, floral, light citrus, slightly metallic. Decent flavor, kind of strange, hoppy, alcohol, more citrus, a bit earthy, bitterness is a little off, but still, decent flavor. Palate is a bit oily, good carbonation. I just had a Dreadnaught, so this beer might be slightly better than my rating, but this isn’t a bad beer. Interesting, not terribly balanced and the aroma and flavor don’t seem to mesh so well, but overall, not bad. Kevin (1918), Colorado, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 2, 2006 Dark orange-amber-gold with a mudium-fine head. Some malt sweetness and a dark, earthy hop profile with a touch of citrus character. Varied hops flavors over a substantial malt profile with both sweetness and alcohol--difficult to discern individual individual hops characteristics amidst the overall dense flavor profile. Full malt body with dense bitterness that lingers after a medium-dry finish. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 2, 2006 Courtesy of Casey (DYCSoccer17). A nice, dusky amber color. Variegated herbal aroma with glitters of anise. Spices sprinkled on slices of ripe melon. Warm, expertly toasted malts (crackers?). More herbal and some floral hop notes in flavor. Extremely smooth and exceptionally pleasant finish (suffused with nuttiness) in spite of the massive bitterness. Doesn’t come across as extremely "imperial." Technically wonderful, but not as full of distinct character as other IIPAs. Ibrew2or3 (2761), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 1, 2006 Clear copper color. Poured a nice creamy two inch off white head. There was excellent lacing left behind. Solid grapefruit aroma with a grainy maltiness that grows stronger as the beer warms. Nice tasting IIPA. Hop bitterness and some sweet malt hit first on the initial sip. But the flavor at this point is smooth and subtle. As the taste proceeds the hops ramp up the intensity. Just past the midway point a grainy maltiness flavor emerges but fails to overcome the big hop bitterness and slightly sweet hop flavor. I really like the big beer flavor of this big beer. Well done. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Oct 30, 2006 Beer #4 at Grant’s IIPA tasting. Single blind tasting for me. Sweet, sugary, caramelly aroma with some piney hops and some definite ethanol present as well. Mildly hazy ruddy amber color with a nice, frothy off-white head with nice lacing present. Sweet, chewy, caramelly, malty flavors to start. Turns a bit chewy with some piney hop flavors to finish. Very mild ethanol notes come in late. Very drinkable and the best of the night.
