After pouring the lightly chilled bomber into an Imperial Pint glass, I got a crystal clear golden amber liquid with a three finger head. The latent carbonation of the body was quite light, but otherwise a good looking beer. The smell was rather subdued for the style, with honey and freshly mowed lawn being chief aromas about. As I took the first sip, the sugary sweetness of the pale malts clashed mightily with the twangy hops. Generally a beer this sweet would require very bitter hops to balance things out, but unfortunately, the hop varieties used here seemed rather weak in their power. If the yeast used had given this more carbonated feel, things would have also improved somewhat, but what we have here instead is sweet hop tea. One positive is that the 9.1% ABV alcohol is well hidden, but that would not be too hard to do, since there was probably enough malt in the original wort to brew a 12% beer. Had this really achieved that potential, it would have been a much improved release. Right now it’s only so so. Thaichile (599), 10aFly, New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 2, 2006 Bottle. Pours a deep orangey gold with a quickly disappearing head. Nose is a battle of the malts and hops. Upon tasting, the hops are clearly victorious over the struggling malts. Upfront taste had a sucking on aluminum foil character mixed with ripe fruit, slowly mellowing out in the finish. High alcohol (9.1) was definately present. This was an enjoyable brew to be sipped and nurtured and not to have alot of at any one time. SSSteve (2090), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Very hoppy aroma of pine, resin, citrus and lemon with a good caramel backbone but the hops are definitely upfront all the way. Smooth nice bittering in the end with plenty of resiny hops in the middle. Very citrusy/ orange and lemon. Very nice DIPA. daveco67 (18), Marion, Iowa, USA

Good mouthfeel. Alcohol is subdued by the malt and nice citrus taste. Thanks to Brian for sharing this one. Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 28, 2006 Mahogany-ish, but more amber. Nose has a big dose of caramel. It’s almost woody. Bitter hops with some pine. Flavor is comprised of citrusy hops, some floral notes and a good dose of bitter. Lots of malts. Thick and sweet with a big malt presence. Reminds me more of an ASA, really. auto (161), California, USA

Poured a fairly dark amber with cloudiness. Small white head that lasted a while with decent lacing. Big nose of rich malts and hops, with hint of pine. Mouthfeel was rich and clean, and nice going down. So far so good. Flavor however is a winner. Really nice hops with fruit, flowers, and all sorts of neat ticklers in there for your tastebuds. Need a bigger glass than this to chase all the flavors down. Finish was exceptional. If I did not have so many other brewers to get to I could have just stayed here and tanked up on this one. Rerate is from a 22 oz bottle. Same rating as before.
