Plenty of hop smell but more malt smell than other imperial pale ales. Flavor is very malty. You’ll dig this one if you like IIPAs that teeter near barleywines; that’s what this one tastes like. Nice mouthful palate and smooth, warming alcohol.

Nice creamy high-medium body with lightish carb and forward sweet flavors. Nuts and caramel and sweet brown bread all over the mid-palate, following with really earthy, leafy cereal husk and a nice piney/resiny bitter cling. Awesome DIPA. nearbeer (1886), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Large head that settles down to a lasting creamy foam. Typical grapefruit and evergreen aroma with some nice toasted cereal also present. Flavor is big on both malt and hops. Can’t really discern much of a front-to-back change; exceptional balance all the way through, except of course the bitter grass and resin finish. Alcohol is more noticeable than many DIPAs, but it doesn’t detract on this one. Palate is mostly smooth, slightly oily and medium-heavy bodied. Juancho (225), Clearwater Beach, Georgia, USA

Just by the looks you can tell it’s a substantial effort. Heavily hopped yet well balanced, it ends with a wonderful hint of sweetness. Very rich, very tasty, and masks the big alcohol very well. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2007 Bottle ala Pitonka. Hazy light copper color with a small lid of light tan bubbles. Heavy citrus and woody pine scents. Some rosemary and light caramel also in the aroma. Sweet perfume and grape flavors. Mild caramel and touch of lemon zest in the middle. A mild burning finish with a rather dry and bitter linger. Seems to mellow as it warms and some tropical fruit join in. Hops are overpowering at times. Its seems that the whole is better than the parts. The hops continue to be a bit to floral and perfume like for me. Thanks Andre’ for the sample. Papsoe (15109), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 13, 2007 (Bottle 65 cl) Hazy, warm, amber golden with an off-white head. Fat aroma of caramel and hops. Full-bodied and sweetish with distinct notes of burned caramel and a little raw aroma hops that leave a rather unsophisticated bitterness. 100707 pivo (2537), Germany

Creamy sweet malt with a big sharp hop bitter. Grassy gritty end. Whaff of alcohol--pretty noticable. Near barley wine. Very good. Angeloregon (2036), Portland, Oregon, USA
