| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 26, 2008 Pours an appetizing clear brownish copper with a thick, frothy head that sticks around for a bit. Aroma is strong and malty with a brandy-ish fruit overtone. Flavor has an undertone of molasses, as well as smoky and nutty hints - and the typical strong alcohol bite of a barleywine. Texture is fairly edgy, and it leaves a rather bitter, hoppy aftertaste. doubleo (1104), San Diego, California, USA

Pours clearish brown/red with a slow building, frothy, offwhite head with good retention and spider web lace. Smells spicy hoppy and caramelly malty sweet. A bit of alcohol on the nose as well. Tastes malty and sweet caramelly with a healthy dose of spicy hop flavors. Pretty hot, lots of alcohol flavor. Pretty solid, classic BW. Full body, good carbonation. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 15, 2008 650 ml. Clear, darkish copper with a lasting one-inch foam that leaves a delicate lacing behind. Aroma of butterscotch, sharp grain (like rye), earthy peat and toasted nut. Flavors of toffee, peat, cherry liqueur, pecan, oak and apple. Big aftertaste of bitter wood and pith is a bit harsh. Medium body is silky smooth, and tingly-peppery dry with alcohol, roast malt and bitter-pithy hops. Fairly complex aroma and flavors, but somehow they don’t seem to mesh as well as they should to be an outstanding BW. tupalev (2617), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Deep dark orange, small white head. Grain, hops, lots of malt, in aroma. Great taste - alcohol, tons of hops, huge astringent linger - a very nice flavourful hoppy barleywine. I really enjoyed it! robforbes (1099), Bremerton, Washington, USA

smell of roasted nuts, spice, some pepper, caramel, barley, some cocoa in the back.
taste is grainy, some nuts, some caramel, and that organic funk.
i was really happy with this, the look, the smell, then when i tasted it i could not believe that i tasted "organic" and sure enough when i checked the bottle it was organic. mabel (2612), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Slightly hazy, burnt amber body with a quick creamy off-white foam. Super boozy syrup malt flavour has "bitter grapefruit seeds" and a bit of toasted grains with a very bitter aftertaste. Medium-full body is heavy with a long-lasting astringency. Boozy heavy low notes is overall quite rough.

Pours a slightly hazy orange-amber with a small frothy white head. Aroma of caramel malt, a hint of alcohol, some fruit and floral hops. Flavour: Whoa, man that’s boozy! Malt, resiny hops and a dry very bitter finish. Average bodied. Somewhat hard to drink, this is just O.K.
