The nose has a horrid burnt aroma to it. The flavor is not bad, albeit somewhat on the lighter side, with some interesting spiciness and a very upfront maltiness, with some roasted milk chocolate flavors and that is about it, overall severaly lacking in body. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Dark red, almost black with minimal head. Strong roasty malt taste, lightly hopped with a bit of spice. Tthere are some faint hints of coffee in the start, a bit roasty. This brew finishes with more bitterness than hoppy taste, with spices. A very dry, chalky finish. Close to a stout as opposed to a Brown Ale. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 18, 2006 Cola-like body... thin fizzy off-white head. Nose has chocolate, smokey holiday spice. Tastes like a brown ale, with some imperial stout like sweet and roasty character. Spice, roasty chocolate malt. Very light hop presence in the finish. Decent drink with some character. elnadeau (786), Laguna Niguel, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 14, 2006 A brown pour for a brown ale, hmmm. Aroma is pleasant, lightly roasted malty with a touch of spice. I expected more robust flavors from a winter ale, this was far too subdued and lacked in body. Came across as a middle of the road brown ale, but not nearly ambitious enough to be "special". DrunkenWeasel (218), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 16, 2005 Smells kind of bland with some malt to it but not a lot else going on. Pours murky brown with a small quickly diminishing head. Taste is rather enjoyable, light malt and yeast taste it goes down easy. Palate is slightly sticky and creamy and leaves the slightest malt sweetness on your tongue. Nice but not complex or particularly stunning.
