| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 22, 2005 Dark mahogany with an off white head and sparse lacing. Caramel and cinnamon in the nose. Slightly biscuity. Roast, bitterness and floral hops. Those hops and roast hit first, then there is a woody flavor. Almost like bark. Chocolate shows up as well. Sweet palate, medium bodied and a finish of bitter malts. irishsnake (353), Oakland, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 14, 2005 beer pours a lovely deep reddish/brown with a light tan head that retains well and leaves good lace. nose is primarily of malt, with caramel and chocolate overtones, along with some earthy hoppiness. flavor follows the malty theme, with the chocolate notes more pronounced in the finish, along with a nice hop presence. the beer is quite well balanced and easy to drink.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2005 Cloudy reddish brown color, with a decent light brown head that leaves lots of lacing, light sweet roasty nutty-caramel aroma. Some roasted, nutty and bready flavors, light to medium body with a soft and creamy mouthfeel, somewhat bitter finish, a bit on the bland side. bcbcdude (2), Chico, California, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 3, 2005 Just polished off two kegs of this at home this winter. Good Stuff. I wish you all could taste this fresh and on tap. It is dark for a brown ale, but the sweet and roasted malty taste is well balanced with some hop bite. I think it should be "Year Round Brown" instead of Winter Ale. Oh well, Spring Ale will be out in March. ¾ (5006), Oregon, USA

Smells like cherries and some dry oats. Impressive roasted malts, meaty smoke flavor and semi-gritty finish with an overlying cherry or sweet plum... better than I expected. Quite robust at times. Pasty sweet and dry malted milk ball finish. Sweet.
