Malty nose, with light hops and chocolate also present.
The taste starts out with malt, that seems somewhat salty.Has a coffee taste in the center, and a slight roasted flavor in the finish. Also had a metallic taste.
Light-medium body that is somewhat watery.
All in all, not to bad.The metallic taste is deterring, but maybe I got a bad bottle.Worthy of a try. BückDich (4848), McCall, Idaho, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2004 Dark mahogany, thin lacing & sticky head. Nose of pine resin & spent charcoal. Taste balanced & dry, a bit of both sweet & bitter slap you & run. Medium bodied, doughy finish. Decent winter beer. Plenty of smoke & light roast. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 22, 2004 Bottle pours dark brown, medium sand colored frothy head, fairly sticky lacing, with very light carbonation. Heavily roasted malts on the nose, slight smoked wood. Mild hop bitterness, slight lactic sourness, roasted malts, and smoked wood coming through on first sip. Medium body, but mouthfeel is teetering on the thin side. Flat finish, reminants of smoked wood but thats about it. Could stand to be thicker & maltier, but otherwise its alright.

Don’t we camp in the SUMMER? Too smokey, lacked lace--not wintery or seasonal at all, but very butt-like, cigarette butt like.well that is too harsh, but I could not help the play on words.. An deep nutty and caramel aroma. It poured a dark brown with a moderate beige head. The flavor is a bit on the bitter side but it does have a good malt profile. I taste chocolate, fig, raisins, and nutmeg. The aftertaste is also somewhat bitter. Wow this was a very good brown ale and one I would recommend for some session drinking Braudog (3766), Dayton, Ohio, USA
