Aroma: Smells of mostly yeasty malts and some earth like notes
Appearance: A clear dark orange color with a fizzy off-white head (mild retention)
Flavor: Somewhat balanced flavor, leaning more toward the malty side
Palate: It has a nice mouthfeel, medium dryness, mildly thin and highly smooth
Overall Impression:
This makes for a decent beer, nothing super exciting, but it hits the mark for a drinkable and simple session brew. If you are looking for something with a lot of complexity, this is not the right beer, but what it is trying to be it does a pretty solid job.
crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Nov 6, 2009 Beer of the month. Had a nice copper body with a white head that had some retention. Aroma had a nice malt note to it. Some sweet notes and some almost biscuity notes. Flavor was similar but did have a delicate hope bite at the end. A little thin on the palate, but carbonation was minimal. A nice session ale, but not out of this world. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Nov 4, 2009 Bottle thanks to cavie. clear brown pour. Aroma is butter, caramel. Flavor is butter, malts, somewhat gross. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Oct 31, 2009 Bottle courtesy of cavie. Pours dark copper with a thin white head. Smells of sweet malt, some vegetal hints. Tastes of earth, tea, some caramel, spice, peppery. As the beer warms, it tastes more like iced tea than beer. Cavie (1317), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Oct 31, 2009 Brownish orange pour. Smells fresh with some aging hops. Bland watery taste with a little grain taste. Not impressive. BMan1113VR (2757), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Oct 30, 2009 "Reserve" bottle thanks to cavie. Pours with a clear amber body and a light white head. Aroma of faint hops, caramel and sweet malt. Taste is caramel, sweet and lightly grassy. Very sweet finish. Light bubbles. bsp77 (191), Minnesota, USA Oct 29, 2009 Poured from bottle into Summit Pint glass.
Clear brownish-copper with very thin head.
Aroma of cherry, plum, biscuit, citrus and spice. Smells good but definitely subdued.
Just slightly sweet cherry and biscuit malts countered by a spicy noble hop bitterness.
Relatively low carbonation for a German brew. Smooth and clean but a little watery. Finishes somewhat dry.
Fairly mild and pleasing Altbier, although not as complex as some others.
FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 25, 2009 This one came in my beer club. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured an orange-caramel color with a medium sized orange-cream head. The aroma was faintly malty, lightly fruity and a touch yeasty. The flavor was dry, bitter and nutty with moderate fruity and floral hops and a touch of caramel. The finish was short, tangy and fruity. Medium body. Ok.
