Commercial Description:
his beer’s looks are deceiving! It may look like a stout, but your first sip will tell you otherwise. Brewed in the tradition of a German Schwarzbier, our Black Lager may look dark, but it tastes clean, bright and smooth. And if you concentrate, you can taste the faint flavor of black currants in the finish, thanks to Brambling Cross hops. This beer has quickly become a staff favorite! Brownish red pour. Some smoke and roasted flavoring on the nose. Tastes thin and bitter. Not flavorful but sadly bittered.

12 oz. shared bottle with a beer club member as one of his latest brews by mail. A rather thin pour with a black/brown hue and transparent enough to show some mahogany tones through the liquid. The head was off white, and quickly diminishing to bubbles, film and a small ring of foam. The aroma was subtle roast, coffee, and a hint of smoke. The flavor was again lightly roasted, somewhat light bodied, but with good carbonation and a moderately bitter finish

Love the color, though I didn’t pick up much on the nose. Easy drinking taste that is light and a little creamy. Good finish with a subtle hint of currants.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Off-white head recedes to skim rim leaving no lacing. Smoky chocolate malt aromas. Crisp with upfront dark caramel and a lasting smoked metallic hop finish.

My Bottom Line:
This simple and dry Schwarzbier transports roasted bread crumbs into leafy hops for a bitter and bubbly quaffer.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the dark brown.
-Furtive spicy hops are found in the nose.
-Light caramel is felt throughout.
-The body is lean, as is to be expectied of the style.
-This is very drinkable, but lacking character to really stand out in its style category.

Bottle.
