Beautiful dark amber color, almost opaque. I like the smoothness and drinking quality a lot. I’m not a big fan of really dark beers but I do like this one. RCL (1496), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA

Easy drinking taste that is light and a little creamy. Good finish with a subtle hint of currants. agillespie81 (206), Denver, Colorado, USA

Appearance - very dark brown, almost opaque, thick head, good lacing;
Taste - basic malt front, back has a bold hop bitterness, likewise in the finish;
Palate - pretty crisp mouthfeel, nice body;
Overall - flavorful for the style, a tad too bitter though, solid brew. Dickinsonbeer (3500), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA

Aroma is toasty malts, some light munichs, but a nice sharp chocolate with roast as well- crisp and clean with some spicy noble hop as well. Flavor is crisp clean-- some light cookie dough malts, toast, sharp dark chocolate, clean crisp bitterness- fresh. Nice Schwarz. SuIIy (1486), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 16, 2007 12 oz. bottle, bottled on date on the back label, sampled in a lager glass.
A nice looking start, poured a dark chocolate black with a two finger high creamy pale tan head, good retention, fair amount of ringed laced sticking.
Light aromas of smoked roasted malts at first then malty scents of chocolate and coffee arise. traces of caramel too. Faint earthy herbalness and dark fruitiness in the background.
Creamy smooth moderate bodied feel, some slickness on the tongue, what one expects for the style. Really pleasant tasting, rich and mellow roasted malts, chocolate caramel and coffee with a dash of cream. The hops add a quite soft spiciness along with the advertised black currant fruitiness. Finishes darkly malt sweet and currant fruity.
This is a good take on the traditional Schwarzbier, from the lagers I’ve tried from Buzzard Bay, all are above average and this is no exception.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Jan 23, 2006 Had on tap at Bittersweet Farm in Westport, MA(about 4 miles down the road from the brewery by the way). Very dark, almost black. Good flavor, very smooth and not hoppy at all. No head to speak of. Went well with dinner but would definitely be good for a couple of cocktails after work. My favorite Buzzard yet!
