halfonit (423), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA Aug 1, 2009 This is an old bottle so it might be skunked. Deep brown cloudy color. Smells mostly of smoke and malts. Taste is smoked. Has a little bit of an unpleasant flavor in the finish, but like I said before, this is an old bottle so there’s a good chance it tastes much better. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Oct 17, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear light orange color with an off white head. The aroma was of leather shoe and a hint of campfire. Light to medium bodied with earthy leather and smoke of mild to moderate intensity. I liked the controlled use of the smoked malt as opposed to the unbridled forest fire volume of smoke in some of the Bamberg rauchbiers. pepsican (884), The Student Ghetto, Iowa, USA Sep 14, 2008 copper pour with a white head. smoke, peat, and caramel aroma. smoke, tobacco, caramel, burnt nalt flavor. Finishes dry and bitter Naven (864), Poway, California, USA Jul 31, 2008 12 oz bottle. Dark color, slight smoky nose. Not really a fan of Rachbiers, but this was easy to drink. Kind of like porter with a touch of smoke. Pretty good. Bartzilla (441), San Diego, California, USA Jul 31, 2008 Thanks Naven. A pretty drinkable Rauch, which isn’t one of my preferred styles. Not as heavy on the smoke as some that I’ve had and that was a bonus. Easily drinkable and would go well with a nice, juicy steak. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Jul 26, 2008 12oz bottle. Light brown, red color with a small off white head. Alefruit, some biscuit, and smoke in the aroma. Slightly sweet up front, some herbal components. Light, slightly ashy smoke character manifests. Roasty, nutty flavors develop in the finish, with some residual smoke. Mouthfeel is a light medium, somewhat dry. Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 20, 2008 Bottled. Poured clear deeper amber with lots of rising carbonation and a sticky, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up smoked ham hock and bacon upfront with a lovely dose of peat.. toasted caramel behind.. lacked the intensity of a Schlenkerla, but that wasn’t a problem here. The flavor had caramel maltage at the core with sour smoky peat and grassy bitterness surrounding.. a bit sharp and rough around the edges. Lighter-bodied with medium-plus carbonation on the palate.. creamy foray devolved to the rough back-end and final impression. Just OK. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 11, 2008
Pours a dark brown with a small bubble head that dissipated quickly to a fine swirl on the top. It actually looks like iced tea when held up to the light. Smell is dominated by sweet malts with a bit of smoke in the aroma as well. The smoke is more of a compliment than a dominant smell. The taste reflects the aroma but I actually got a bit more of the hickory smoke in the taste, and in a good way. The mouthfeel is medium with a slightly bitter, woody finish. This is a very drinkable rauchbier due to the subtle nature of the smoke, though I wouldn’t put it at the top of my list of smoke beers.
