Commercial Description:
This is a beer with a very full body; rich, deep, balanced malt flavor; and a smooth, roasted flavor with lots of chocolate and coffee-like flavors. The hops used are U.S. Magnum and English East Kent Goldings to provide a nicely balanced finish to the beer. The Porter is delicious and satisfying and makes a perfect accompaniment to vanilla or chocolate flavored desserts, and as a cold weather sipping beer. It is exceptionally drinkable for a dark, heavy beer.

Roasted and slightly vinous aroma, bit of chocolate as well. Unexceptional appearance. Warmed up nicely, with some occasional bursts of flavor. Distinctly dry, mild bitter aftertaste. Slightly slippery, oily palate, but other times striking a watery tone. Decent porter (and thus well above average in the beer world) but didn’t thrill me. I liked the legal disclaimer on the back of the bottle--one that I hadn’t seen before: "Chart on front not meant for navigational purposes." Yeah, like some guys on a boat off of Massachusetts find themselves lost and one of them says, "hey, I know! We’ll use this Buzzard map on this bottle...."

Roasted grain, caramel, chocolate, coffee aroma. Deep nut brown hue. Rich foamy tan head. Sweet malts dominate first, medium bodied, nice bitter finish. Creamy chocolate earthy lingering finish. I enjoy this porter, very drinkable.

I got a bad bottle the first time that I rated this beer. This time it was much better. Although a bit water y. Makes a good breakfast beer. Chocolate aroma, slightly sour taste. Nice mouthfeel.

Dark black color, thick, but limited head; smells like a yoohoo. Mild, smooth, thick flavor. Gentle. Mildly bitter aftertaste, but only mildly. Not a lot to it, but quite pleasant.

Nice roasty aroma. The flavor shares the roastiness, but it still comes across as watery.

Re-Rate 04/12/02, Another Missing Beer? Pours a nice deep brown, the head beige, the nose is malt, slight toastyness, and some caramel tones also noted. Front is sweet malt, the top medium, the finish is dry and acidic, hops present, drinkable, and worth a try.

Deep mahogany with a thin light tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and chocolate. Lightly roasted taste dominated by chocolate malts and a black malt twang. Earthy hop balance. Decent.
