Commercial Description:
Pasteurised nitro-keg and nitro-can beer.
"A smooth, creamy ale." Introduced in 1994 as a 4.8% Irish Ale by Bass at Caffrey's Ulster brewery, and promoted strongly with an advertising campaign of "strong words softly spoken". Interbrew took over in 2000, soften the recipe and attempted to catch the lager market, using a new promotion of "a storm brewing". Coors acquired the brand in 2002. Initially contract brewed by Interbrew for Coors at Ulster, the brand eventually moved to Coor's Tower Brewery in Tadcaster.

(canned) Red copper colour with thick creamy white head. No aroma to mention, maybe some grass and caramel. Light-bodied and fizzy. Some fruity malt with some grassy notes. Bland.

Caffreys is a nice enough irish ale, not quite as good as some but still quite tasty. Good colour and nice creamy taste make it quite pleasant.

Very little aroma. Dense white head on an almost orange-red body. Nice cascade from the nitro. This beer looks deceptively enticing. Not alot of maltiness or sweetness to back up the pretty presentation. Mouthfeel is creamy ad one would expect of a notro beer but also a wee bit fizzy. The best alternative in a restaurant with a main-stream selection, this would not generally even merit consideration. On tap at Montana's restaurant in Brantford, Ontario.

A very enjoyable irish ake. I've heard they don't make this anymore- it's a shame.

This is one of those beers that my mate SBgoodDave says is a bit of a disappointment. I agree with him, the presentation is fine but the rest fails to deliver. The thinness of the body is only complemented by the lack of a good hop presence and maltiness.

Somewhat ordinary nitro-keg ale: brownish color, huge soapy head, thin body. Easy drinkable and forgettable.

An orange beer. A little watery. Tastes fruity and alittle metallic. Not much of a body, and not a beer i will remember for very long.

On tap at Weaver's Arms in Waterloo. Beautiful cascade, creamy body and mouthfeel. A bit of a fruity note. Vastly prefer it to Kilkenny.
