Commercial Description:
Pasteurised nitro-keg and nitro-can beer.
"A smooth, creamy ale." Introduced in 1994 as a 4.8% Irish Ale by Bass at Caffrey's Ulster brewery, and promoted strongly with an advertising campaign of "strong words softly spoken". Interbrew took over in 2000, soften the recipe and attempted to catch the lager market, using a new promotion of "a storm brewing". Coors acquired the brand in 2002. Initially contract brewed by Interbrew for Coors at Ulster, the brand eventually moved to Coor's Tower Brewery in Tadcaster.

Head is initially large, creamy, off-white, fully lasting. Body is light amber, light density of small particles. Aroma is lightly malty (cookie, toasted light bread), lightly hoppy (flowers), faint note of honey. Flavor is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Light body, watery (almost creamy) texture, soft carbonation. Very thin and watery, with a very light aroma and flavor.

Brownish amber and very creamy. Sweet, rather malty, fruity, with creamy mouthfeel, but lacking in character and with a very industrial feeling to it.

translucide golden amber colour under a creamy white head; light notes of caramel and fruits in the nose; very smooth mouthfeel and terribly watery; low bitterness and a shy caramelish aftertaste - empty and boring

A good, mass produced ale. Maybe a little to creamy for me personally, but good all the same.
