harrisoni (5359), Ashford, Kent, England Apr 1, 2008 Updated: Apr 12, 2008Cask handpull at Lord Moon of the Mall ’Sporks. I really should have done my research first. I knew that I had this in bottle, but didn’t think the cask would be a separate rating. Quite sweet malts, decent lager though. Rich and tasty, full mouthfeel. I agree with Chris_o, I found it tasty in cask form. 3.4/5
Re-rate County Hotel, only just came on. Thick head, but no sparkler. Great condition, bit of puke, but very good red fruit too, I mean it has the elements of a bock, but at 4.5%? Great condition. Settles down in to a fruity beer. Malts are good, so is the fruit and a stinging finish in middle of tongue. Oddly drinkable. Mes_and_Sim (4487), Highgate, Greater London, England Apr 22, 2008 A Mes rate: Cask at Baker St ’Sporks. Hazy amber with a thin off white head. Slightly metallic hop aroma with big fruity notes and rather a lot of sugar. Straight forward fruity malt flavour with a bit of a salty note. Very dull. chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Mar 30, 2008 Cask (handpump) at The Crosse Keys (JDW), City of London. Amber colour. Not much aroma to speak of. Comes through strongly malty on the palate, with plenty of caramel and a smidgen of grassy hop. Surprisingly full mouthfeel but I’m not sure this really qualifies as a Bock in its weaker form. Perhaps more like a Dunkel but not easy to call in its unfamiliar cask format. Tasty enough whatever you call it.
Pub (4123), Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Apr 6, 2008 Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Mid brown amber with thickish head. Attempting to mop up the remaining beers in the Festival. This is not a greatly pleasing beer, sweet, malty, toffeeish and quite dull. It’s not off nor bad, just quite unremarkable. maeib (4012), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Apr 4, 2008 Cask conditioned - handpump - Highcross Leicester. An amber beer which looks dead in the glass. A sweet, fruity aroma with hints of caramel. Again sweet malty and caramel charged in the taste. I believe there are Germanic influences, but it’s too thin to be a bock and the short finish is a real disappoinment.
