Not quite an IPA, not quite a true ESB, not quite bitter enough for my taste.

On tap at Calapooia in Albany, OR--Poured a golden-amber body with a small swirly whitish head. Nose was quite hops-laden. Biscuity, crisp and citrusy. Very nice hoppy take on the style. Not as sweet or earthy as a traditional ESB, but quite delish!

on tap-pours a retaining thin off white head that laces and hazy gold color. Aroma is mild medium malt, faint flat hops. Taste is medium malt-caramel, faint flat hops/some citrus, some bitterness. Mild carbonation.

On tap at the brewery. This beer tastes like a slightly stronger version of their Aft Pale. Herbal citrus hops, strongly bitter. I didn’t find this malty enough for an ESB, the hops overwhelmed, lacked the earthy malt ESB quality.

This ESB poured dark amber at Portland’s Beer, Wine and Cheese Fest in the convention center. It had no head, but that’s OK, because it was very nutty tasting and refreshing. Nicely done ESB.

Sampled at the 2007 Blooms & Brews Fest at the Oregon Gardens. This one poured a dark hazy amber and had an average sized head. Nose was mostly caramel and floral hops. Taste was pretty bland with some caramel and subdued hops. Metallic finish/aftertaste. Moderate carbonation, medium body.
