| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 4, 2006 Copper pour with a layer of noisy off-white foam. Abundant straightforward dark bread aroma, with well-blended earthy/straw hops. Flavor is less sweet than the aroma would seem to indicate. Toasty, spritzy caramel. A little bit of mineral quality. Restrained earthy bitterness. A simple little beer, but one I enjoyed very much. I think a bottle conditioned version of this would be terrific. I like the bright carbonation of this bottled (rather than cask), but I think some yeast would really add just that extra complexity. Seems odd to have this listed as a bitter. Scottish ale anyone? ogivlado (3088), Zagreb, Croatia

Sweet malty and light hoppy aroma with spicy and oak notes. Few caramel and nuts hints. Spicy bitterness in the finish. Drinkable and very dry but also a bit too watery. thewolf (5796), Kolding, Denmark

Spicy malt aroma, bitter malt, caramel, spices, very smooth, minimal carbonation. Much better from the cask but still a decent canned alternative when real ale is unavailable. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 22, 2006 Updated: Dec 10, 2006500 ml can - pours dark copper, with a smallish white head. Aroma of some light hops, sweet malts and a nice earthiness. Flavours of caramel, peat, honey, and the faintest hint of heather? Light carbonation does the style justice. It’s got a very good spicy bitterness in the finish, which isn’t too big, but is enjoyable nonetheless. A decent bitter. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Nov 18, 2006 Bottle (from Waitrose, BB Sep 07). Lots of malty fruit and caramel. Not too sweet with a fuzzy papery hop bitterness. Not too bad bottled but really fades compared to the cask product I think selling this as the bottled version of the cask Champion beer of Scotalnd whilst not dishonest is slightly immoral. dj (422), Gloucestershire, England

A light aroma with malt, oak and perhaps some chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, peach, more oak and chocolate. A little bitterness and oak in the finish. Rather tasty.
