A light aroma with malt, oak and perhaps some chocolate. Taste is roasted malt, peach, more oak and chocolate. A little bitterness and oak in the finish. Rather tasty. voota (765), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Oct 24, 2006 Light clear amber with a fairly small white head. Aroma of nuts, mild caramel malt and pleasant but plain hop. Flavour is a little bready, moderate bitterness and a resonantly strong metallic/citrus hop flavour. Clean and decent. | 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Had this at the "Free House" (JD WItherspoon owned) in Edinburgh. I know my friend ranted this was one of his favorites earlier int he day (a former student of the university). Too damn malty for my taste, but also too watery. I made a point of hitting the hand pulled ales while tere, but this was only slightly more paletable than the Belhaven had the day before. I guess the Scots like their beer like their scotch, overly malty. Granted there were some oak tones picked up on the tongue, but it still wasn’t something I’d have more than two of if in a pinch. Heck, I may blame it on the tap though. aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 17, 2006 Aroma: Bready, malty, nutty, clean
Appearance: Reddish brown. Low head, light cabrnation, creamy mouthfeel, light body
Flavour: Aggressive attack of clean malt, but not cloying or overly sweet. Malt disappears leaving a mineral, dry finish. Clean and smooth
Overall: Refreshing, not too sweet. very well balanced between clean malt and dry finish. No ester character. Predominantly malt with low roastiness and mineral dyness as it finishes. I could drink lots of this beer. TheJester (742), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 15, 2006 500 mL can. Chestnut red in colour. Thin, slightly beige head that persisted. Strong aroma of red wine. Flavour is quite complex, and persistent. Definitely a lot of maple syrup up front, along with some chocolate. Bitter hops and bitter chocolate on the finish. An odd taste lingers on the tongue, almost kinda smoky. Fairly substantial mouthfeel. A little sweeter than I usually like, but it ain’t bad. MarkoR (224), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Malty chocolate aroma and sweet caramel flavour, nicely balanced by the hint of roasty bitterness in the finish. Tastily balanced bitter.
UPDATE soggy choc malt (Crystal?),pencil shavings, burnt honey. Unusual and solid malt character. Tasty.
