| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Mar 31, 2006 Talk about a thin-tasting ale: don’t we want our ales to taste heavy and full? Amber colour with thin, white head. Very "tinny" or metalic taste. I don’t detect the fruity or malty tones: only bitter, almost sour, hoppy flavour. I would go with more robust ales or bitters which have a real fruity, malty or nutty taste and complement bold food amazingly well. Maybe some other Scottish ales have a fuller taste. | 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 22, 2006 Nitro. Deep amber color with the fat nitro head, beige in color. Aroma is muted due to the nitro, hints of caramel, lightly toasted. Flavor is also muted, a little more developed than the aroma, but still weak. Medium bodied, easy drinking. Decent, I would have rather tried a non-nitro version. gnoff (3570), Göteborg, Sweden

Dark amber with a small white head. Malty and a bit "English" scent. Medium body and bitterness. Fairly mild taste, a bit sour. Boutip (2364), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 7, 2006 Can: Poured a deep amber color ale with a foamy slightly off-white head with good retention. Aroma of sweet malt is really enjoyable. Good caramel malt presence is also easily noticeable and very enjoyable. Subtle bitter hops closing are also nice. Tasted more like a Scottish ale but then I’m no expert with the English style of beer. Lubiere (4528), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Lightly hazed dirty reddish amber ale with a t hick collapsing off white head. Pleasantly hopped bitter aroma, herbal and fragrant, with light nuttyness. Good malt in mouth, with discreet British hops, sustained in mouth. In style. Medium bodied. Can from LCBO. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 3, 2006 Medium-brown with a beautiful vermillion sunset around the edges. Enticing aromas of icing sugar and caramel-covered candy apple. Chocolatey mouthfeel, and flavours of full chocolate malt and an interesting melon nuance. Nicely flavoured; encourages volume consumption.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 1, 2006 can 500ml- Clear copper with a thick beige head. Aroma is woody, malty, with some notes of mint. Medium body, very earthy, notes of caramel some herbal notes, maybe mint, roasted malt, with a tiny bit of hops bitterness in aftertaste. Not bitter enough for me, but pretty enjoyable and a good malty taste. pootzboy (1048), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 18, 2006 No fancy nitro widgit in this can...the pour gave me a tawny-copper colored clear ale with a nice frothy 1 finger cap that lasted well and laced the glass ( the result of wheat protiens). Modest carbonation. More like a cask version of this standard Scottish ale than the nitro engine steroid version.
Aroma: Toasty grainy, caramel sweetness with a nice herbal medicinal hop twang.
Body: Medium and very silky smooth
Mouthfeel: Creamy and smooth
Taste profile: The malts show up early where a nice chewy dose of toasty amber, golden, black and crystal malts meet the palate....the hop mixture of fuggles and a couple of golding varieties give a nice "grassy" decernment that rides along slightly in the back of the malt mixture...the finish goes dry with ( I’m sure) some detectable unmalted wheat and the whitbread goldings providing a medicinal bittering. Not a harsh but mellow type of dry finish...wonderful!
There are few ales I find this extremely drinkable.
A very well put together ale just made for sessions.
