Draught at The Rose & Crown. Pours a clear dark amber with a small creamy off-white head. Mild aroma of malt, floral hops, fruit and a touch of smoke. The flavour is also mild and for the most part follows the aroma. Body is creamy but it’s too thin. I found this beer dissapointing, it does down smooth but I don’t much care for the taste -- I imagine it’s better on cask.

On tap at Highlander Pub, Ottawa. Dark copper body with light carbonation and a thin but lasting off-white creamy head. Light malty aroma with hoppy, roasty, and caramel notes. Well balanced hoppy taste with malty and roasted cereal hints. Ends with a fair bitter finish. Average Ale.

50cl bottle from Morrisons. Dark chestnut colour with thin beige head. Malty, sulphur. Nice in mouth. Some nice yeast. Goodish finish with some more darkish malts, some fruit and toffee

Dark golden witha short lived off-white head. Malt aroma with a hint of apple and wood. Flavour is malt and caramel, quite sweet with a reasonably dry finish. Not bad, but not remarkable either.

Bottled. A dark brown beer with a tan head which is quite large at first but does thin out. The aroma is qoty, toasty and malty; oatcake biscuits spring to mind. The taste is also very malty and oaty. A tasty beer but the mouthfeel is too thin. Suprisingly I’ve scored thi higher than the cask version.

Dark amber and a small head. Sweet malty, smoky aroma and tate. Too much carbonation, and could do with a little more bitterness.
