| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 14, 2005 Had this up in St Andrews after seeing the practise games for the open. Pours just as dark as the cask but more carbonated. Aroma is caledonian all over it, a little sweetness aswell. Taste is similar to ask but carbonation makes it not as good, slightly smokey malty sweetness to it. Alright, nothing to special, what i expected really. Nose of chocolate malt, toffee, and bread crusts. Minerally with toasted nut. Grains, oatmeal, light spicing. Chocolate and trace oiliness. Not bad. It was a hot day and this quenched the thirst, but .. pale, orangey, slightly cloudy, fair bit of white foam, but that was the tap, pretty flat. Weak malt and mild, stale hop aroma, a touch floral, more grassy and bland. Flavour was certainly unchallenging, equally disappointing in hoppiness and malt, a touch of tobacco in the mix, quick diminish on the palate. Went down too easily - a little thin, I didn’t order another. Give me a real scottish ale!!! GregClow (2516), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 25, 2005 Draught sample at beerbistro Summer Beer Festival 2005. Clear dark amber with a small, slightly off-white head. Aroma is malty, and a little smokey. Mouthfeel is very creamy. Flavour is restrained but pleasant, with sweet malts and a mildly hopped finish. Would make a good session beer for those times that you want something tasty but simple & unchallenging. TheGrandMaster (1877), Auckland, New Zealand
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 14, 2005 Poured from the bottle, a clear light brown and a frothy head. Aroma is malty with hints of coffee. A sourness in the flavour, but also hoppy bitterness and malts. Affected by the carbonation.
